My buddy is sick :(
 

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and am looking for some direction. My 8 month old guy is sick and pretty much as been off and on since we got him. I am so confused about what to do or where to go for help.
His symptoms are always the same, begins with his needing to go out side and poo, then his stomach or intestines start making this gurgling noise that is really loud. If you were to feel his belly, you can actually feel his intestines because they are hard. This eventually passes, but takes quite a toll on him of coarse and me because it always happens in the middle of the night. Who can think of sleeping right? But it will take him down for the entire day when it happens. I know it is painful because he cannot find a comfortable place to lay down or stand up. The vet has done blood and says his pancreas is fine, they have ultrasounded him and found nothing, and also done xrays, NOTHING! I am told it is a food issue, and have tried every single brand of food out there that is available to me. (high end foods of coarse) I will be honest and say some didn't last long enough to see if they would work because he wouldn't eat them, but in any case all that he has tried has failed him. He is on Z/D now and unless he has a secret stash somewhere, still has a problem digesting. He was hospitalized this past Sunday for dehydration, and was tested for Giardia which he has had in the past, but the test was negative. Does this sound familiar at all to anyone?

Rosie has lots of tummy issues. She was diagnosed with IBS. She is on I/D which seems to work well for her. I am not familiar with the Z/D so I don't know what the differences are. When I feed her other foods besides the I/D we always end up seeing the vet because of a flare up. Have you asked about IBS?

Lola is very sensitive when it comes to food, she has lots of tummy issues if i feed her human food, or if she eats grass or whatever is not her kibble. When i first got her I remember the first time she had tummy issues, she would't stop shaking, and the shakes came from her belly, I took her to the vet and she told me it could be gas from her food, the vet gave me a natural medicine for digestion problems.
Even when I don't ever give her any human food and i am always telling ppl not to feed her cus she is very sensitive, sometimes she gets " the shakes" , i give her her medicine n after 5 min she is completly fine.

wherever i go, i take the medicine with me cuz i know she can get an upset belly anytime and i am sure is very painfull, u can feel her hard stomach and the look in her face is heartbreaking.
maybe u can try to find the medicine, i buy it on line, the name is Digyton from Himalaya, here is a link with some info.

Thanks for the suggestions, I wish I could be confident the problems we are having are stomach sensitivities. He has blood and mucus in his stool, and sometimes no stool just the blood and mucus. After he gets rid of that he starts to feel better. The vet told me I should maybe try some probiotics, still seems sure it is dietary indescretions. I hope so because the next step is a specialist. So sweet and funny I hate to see him go through this, breaks my heart :(

Poor little boy. It sounds like the two of you are having a time of it. I am sorry.

Yorkies have a lot of tummy issues. They can have pancreatitis issues, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE), and allergies (there might be some others I missed). I would suggest a specialist. They're first fee might be higher, but they can get to the bottom of things for you.

Forgot to add, I had a little one w belly issues. She was eventually diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. I, like Rosie, had to keep her on prescription ID canned food and nothing else. She did do better on this.

My dog Daisy is very sensitive. I have her on the Purina HA which is similar to the Z/D diet but lower in fat. She is doing so well on it. Maybe something in the Z/D diet is not agreeing with your dog so consider asking your vet about the Purina HA diet as an alternative.

Mojo was on the HD for a while and did well, but I was told he couldn't stay on that because there wasn't enough in there to sustain him for life, so that is how we got to the ZD. Even that food although it seems like we don't have a choice right now, doesn't seem like healthy food to me. The whole experience is new for me, this is my first puppy ever. I never knew there was such a thing as a specialist for dogs! Oh well, I added prebiotics to his food and will hope for the best for now. If hoping doesn't work I will have to look into this specialist, although the vet says the pancreas is working fine...
