| xpen.jpg Is this the kind you are talking about? I am so sorry this happened. I never thought of this happening. Josie used to climb over the x-pen I used to close off the kitchen which is the same in the picture with additional panels. I quit using it because I was scared she would get hurt coming over the top. I never imagine her getting hung up in it. OMG I pray that Anakin gets better with his leg and foot. |

| Hi I am a new member and was reading about your baby. If by cone of silence you mean something to keep him from reaching his hind legs. Ask your vet to give you the type of collar that is put on cats when they are spayed. It looks like the top of a turtlenecked sweater but is stiff. They cannt reach their hind ends and there isn't this THING sticking out for them to try to walk or eat around. |

| Hope Anakin has improved even more today. Thank God the leg wasn't broken and will be praying that it heals good as new. Please give him hugs from Toto and me.

| I'm so so sorry...I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. I will keep both of you in my prayers. I knew there was another reason why I don't like those xpens..I have the softsided play yard...it has a floor in it and a mesh top that zips closed so our babies can not climb or jump out I felt it was better due to the floor in it...you can put it anywhere in the house and the mesh top that zips closed so they can't climb or jump out but I never once in my search thought the xpen was a hazard to our babies. I never imagine them getting hung up in it. OMG you must have been a mess when you saw him. I will now be recommending the softsided play yard...not only for its floor and zip top but most important..safety!! I'm so sorry this happen to your baby...but I thank you for posting this thread so others will know the hazards of an xpen.

| This is so scary. Poor little Anakin. I am happy to hear he is bearing some weight on his leg now, and hope he continues to improve. I know first hand how it is when you think you've thought of everything possible to keep them safe and out of harms way, but it's the one thing you never think of that causes a problem. Sending hugs.

| I think anything that is soft-sided with large enough mesh openings can potentially entrap a limb or other body part. Aside from fractures and ,just as scary, is the vascular compromise that can occur if a little foot is caught up or entangled. Circulation cut off for very long can permanently damage the artery, veins, nerves and tissue to the point of destroying the limb from the point of the tourniquet outward. The limb loses blood supply and dies, usually requiring amputation or partial amputation. That is one problem with any structure that is soft-sided with large enough mesh or even small mesh that can be cut or torn to produce a hole large enough to catch a body part.

| Kim, I am praying for your little Anakin!! That is just horrible. Both of my babies are escapees of the pen!!!!!! Just did it last night when I went to a friends house for a few hours, came home and Jett was out sleeping in the bedroom. The thoughts that came to my mind........I am returning my ex pen ASAP and going to get a different style with a top!!! Keep us posted on how the little guy is doing. I soooooooooo wish more people would post about the safety of some types of pens!!! I really thought I was keeping my little ones safe, thats what I get for thinking!!! Praying for you guys!

| I was wondering that too - here is a review I did on mine a while ago that almost injured Teddy http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...rcise-pen.html

| Wow, Kim! How scary... I feel so sorry for Anakin! Couver got his front paw caught in the top of our metal ex-pen about a while ago when he was trying to jump out to get to me. He was yelping and I was screaming because I couldn't get his poor little paw out. I didn't know what to do because it was caught in there so tight, but I eventually got it out and he acted like nothing happened.
