| any tips to comfort princess after spay? Princess was spaying yesterday and has been up and around much more today, i even got her to eat a couple of times but she wont drink any water that i have seen. she's blocked off from the l.r. so she doesn't jump on the couch so i've been staying with her in my room today so she's not alone. she's went pee a couple times (on her pad in the bathroom like a good girl) but hasn't pooped yet, she should've had a pm one by now. she has also been crying & whining the past couple of hours off and on, but isn't due for any more pain meds til 6a.m. i'm sure i may be over-reacting, as i tend to with her. i just wondered if anyone has any ideas to help her discomfort and to get her to drink. i thought of putting her in the tub to run the water for a sec as she loves to drink out of there but she doesn't want me to pick her up at all. any advice or tips, please share, i hate to see her suffering. i don't think it's bad enough to warrant a vet visit but if you do i'd be glad to hear it. thanks so much. | Gizmo didnt drink normally for a few days. He cried and whinned also but he was on his pain meds so i dont think he was in pain i think he was just a little bored. Gizmo was neutered along with his dew claws removed. Gizmo also took 3 days to go poop i think it has to do with the anesthia and the pain meds!! I added some milk that you buy for weaning puppies and mixed it with a little water and Gizmo drank it all! Just a little incentive to drink Might be worth a shot! Just stay with your baby and i am sure she will be just fine!! |

| If you are really concerned that she hasn't had any water since yesterday, I would try and get her to drink from a spoon or from your fingers. She is peeing so is it possible that she has had some water and you missed it?? I know Trixie was not all that interested in food/water the day after she came home from her spay, but she didn't cry/whine. I wouldn't put her in the tub though since she may get her incision wet. Hopefully someone will come on that has more advice. Hope she feels better soon.

| thanks, ladies. i did give her maybe 6-8 mL of water out of a dropper last night but that really upset her. and i bought her some "cesar" meals as an incentive to get her to eat, along with a lil sour cream that is her favorite! i usually give her a little dollop to take her interceptor, etc. i know spaying is very routine, but just like so many (prob all) of you feel on here...she's my baby! i'll just keep babying her & take any other ideas that come in, thanks again! |

| With mine I always found the pain meds caused them to sleep alot. You might try giving her ice chips but I would be careful about putting her in the tub because you don't want to get her stitches wet. |

| Sorry she is in pain. I wouldn't advise putting her in the tub as her incision site could get infected. Don't forget, she was hooked to an iv during her procedure so she just might not be thirsty but you should still keep an eye on her to make sure that she does get some water at some point. they may not be able to answer your question but maybe try calling the emergency vet and explain to them about her pain and see what they say. Hope Princess starts to feel better soon.

| princess is doing much better today. she greeted me at the door a little while ago. i fed her & she ate, though she once again snubbed the water, i think she wants to keep that part a secret as she is urinating. she's still been getting the chills off and on, i put a modified sweater on her and wrapped her in a blanket, she must like it cuz she's licking my arm (which is tickling! lol). and also it was one year ago today that i got her! she was 9 weeks and 4 days and has come such a long ways! my first yorky and dog and i can't imagine my life without her! |

| Whenever I want mine to drink more water, I put about a tablespoon of chicken broth mixed with a couple tablespoons of water in their dishes. They drink it up.

| She's had a real turn around today...she was barking at me like crazy this morning cuz she wanted to go outside. I can't really risk taking her out because 1) she goes nuts if she sees another dog and 2) people here really did not pick up after their dogs this winter so I'd just be begging for her to get an infection. I let her out on the patio for some fresh air & she's done pretty good at using her pads. As for drinking, I've found a trick. I've been putting a lil bit of milk in her water, then warming it a little...man does she drink it up! I have some chicken broth so I just may try that, too, if she starts slacking again. Thanks everyone for your well-wishes, advice and concern! |

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I thought my lexi was shaking because she was cold after surgery (three days later) ended up taking her to the vet and she had caught a little virus she had a fever and would not eat or drink. Two shots and sent home with amoxcillian and she was much better in a couple of days. She was spayed on the last day of feb. And back to her wonderful self now. just watch the shakes hope she is much better soon

i'll just be happy when she has her typical "yorkie attitude" back, and it will be nice to take her to my moms again, as there is an un-altered rat terrier there who has the major hots for princess...hopefully he'll chill now, hopefully even more my sis will get him fixed! | |

| Try not to worry too much....her "yorkie attitude" will return!! She is just not feeling herself since her spay. Trixe was blah for about a week or so after her spay. She would just lie around...pretty quiet. Glad Princess stopped shaking with her sweater.
