Farrah is getting surgery today for Legg-Perthes I'm a little beside myself that my baby needs another surgery (at 7mos she was spayed) Now at 9 mos she is having surgery to remove the broken hip bone caused by Legg-Perthes Disease. I'm curious to hear your story if you have been through this. Please share what the process was and what the rehabilitation was like. I feel so badly for my Farrah. She has been through enough.:(:(:( |
I haven't been through this, but I wanted to send prayers for Farrah. May she have a successful surgery and a complete recovery. |
I haven't been through this, but a few here have. Do a search for Legg-Perthes and you'll find a bunch of posts with useful info, and members that maybe you could PM and ask for their advice:) Best wishes for Farrah's surgery. The dogs I've read about here have done very well after their healing periods are over, so try to remain positive that your baby will be okay too:love: BIG hugs!:girl_hug: |
Keeping you and Farrah in my thoughts today. |
Keeping Farrah in my prayers today. I have never dealt with this but one of mine recently had LP surgery where they cut her bone and repositioned it. She did really well, even with the confinement. |
The vet said to call after 3pm today to check on how the surgery went. When I called they said Farrah hadn't been operated on yet and to call back after 5. The wait is antagonizing! But no news is probably good news, right? |
Thank you all for the well wishes. Sorry I didn't mention that in my last post, I just can't think clearly. |
I haven't been through this but I really just wanted to wish you good luck. Fynnlie and I are sending good thoughts your way! |
I am so sorry that you and Farrah have to go through this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your little girl. |
I am so sorry. Wishing you and Farrah only the Best.:) |
Wishing you and your pup the very best! I know how you are feeling. Most of us have dreaded a particular day that affects one of our pets, or should I say family. Good luck. |
Thank you all. I spoke with the vet and he said Farrah did great with the surgery. She did have many bone fragments in there and was probably in a bit of pain. She also has hip dysplasia on the opposite leg. So he is slightly concerned about that hip bearing her 4lb body over the next couple of months while doing therapy. BTW, she is 9 months old. So now I hold my breath overnight and pray she has no swelling or post-op problems. Thank you again for all the well wishes. You All are the reason Yorkie Talk is such a wonderful community. |
Wishing you the best. Keep the faith that everything will be ok. |
Thinking of you and your sweet baby. Wishing her a good recovery. |
I'm glad to hear that Farrah did well with her surgery. Please keep us updated on how she does with her recovery. |
Hugs from Missouri - sending get well wishes. |
Hi toby had it done last December and you would hardly know now! I think he was using it normally within 3 or 4 months. Was 9 months when he had op. Had hydro therapy for a few months and is doing great now. Recovery is amazing! |
Hi. So sorry your baby needed this surgery. It's great she did well. Your vet should give you detailed instructions on how to manage her through her recovery. You will need to confine her and walk her, your vet should give you specifics of how , how long and what to watch for. I'll keep her in my prayers for a speedy recovery... |
I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. Sending her some get well hugs. Thanks for the update! |
Hoping that today is a good day for Farrah! Sometimes it does take a little time for them to start using their leg again after surgery, but these pups do very well with FHOs. Will look forward to hearing further updates. As for her hip dysplasia, hopefully that will not cause problems in the future. I have a pup who had deformed hind legs and had surgery on one of his knees....it did not affect the hip dysplasia that he has in both hips. The orthopedic vet I use told me that hip dysplasia often does not affect them too much due to their small size. I hope that will be the case with little Farrah. |
Hey fellow Long Islander - I just wanted to wish you all the best with your beautiful puppy. I hope her life from this point forward is much more happier and healthier. |
I'm sending my love and good wishes for you and Farrah, and I am hoping she has a speedy recovery. |
Hugs and wishes for a speedy recovery! |
Sending prayers and healing thoughts for your beautiful girl Farrah. I hope she is doing well tonight. |
Thanks Everyone! I thought I'd give a little update since it has been a couple of days. She is putting a little weight on her leg and is eating like a mad woman! LOL She is wagging her tail and seems much happier already. Of course we cannot begin her walking therapy for a couple of weeks but I'm happy to see what she is comfortable with at this point. It appears very promising. Enjoy the day All. : ) |
