Our lil girl having seizures! I posted on the health forum too before I saw this, new to the forum and I am worried sick about my baby. I found this site while trying to get info on seizures. Our 3yr old 2.4 lb. yorkie Gracie had 2 seizures today. She has had what we thought were hypoglycemia related episodes before but has been months apart like once or twice a year which I mentioned to the vet last time she was in and he did not say much, seemed to agree that it could be that since she is so tiny. I was not too concerned b/c the last time I gave her sugar water and she stopped and was lethargic but seemed to be fine after that and it has not happened in a long time, but then she had one earlier this afternoon. It lasted probably a min or two but she seemed to improve after the sugar water and she immed. went and ate and then later as she was lying in front of couch she started to convulse again. She was panting like crazy, legs shaking, spazzing out and scared me to death! This lasted about a minute and she was sorta disoriented and tired and I held her on the couch and petted her and kept checking to make sure she was okay. I plan on taking her to the vet but was wondering if anyone else has any expreience with this, it is very scary and I worry alot about her b/c she is so little. She took a tumble off the couch-long story but she was asleep between my mom's legs and she forgot she was there and got up and she fell. She was startled but acted okay and did not seem to be hurt so I am wondering if that could have anything to do with this? That was on Thurs. eve. and she did not seizure until this afteroon. Sorry so long, This just makes me crazy b/c I am worried about her. Thanks, Jen |
I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. I know that yorkies can have epilepsy and sometimes it can be brought on by over vaccination or reactions to vaccines or sometimes it is completey unrelated to vaccines. I hope the vet is able to diagnose the problem and treat her so she can get well or at least control the seizures. I know it must be so scary for you and we send yorkie hugs and kisses your way. Please keep us updated and let us know what the vet says. |
i just wanted to say im sorry, i dont know much about seizures as my dog has not had them.... however, the thing i have learned on here is that they are mostly diagnosed as a0 hypoglycemic b) liver shunt c) nuerological disorder Just an off question: can a pup live 3 yrs and an owner not know that it has liver shunt? I have seen many cases where a pup is younger... hmmm... anyways, sorry, just curious how long liver shunt can mask its symptoms  |
I thought those were most likely after looking at posts and checking out info on seizures, and was wondering about the liver shunt also but have no idea myself on how long a dog could have one and not have problems because of it. If anyone knows or has any advice for when I take her to the vet, I definetly appreciate it. Thanks |

I HOPE your little girl is going to be ok - the best advise I've seen on this site is GO to the VET if you are experiencing a seizure asap....I mean this in a good way only - but at 3 years old - there must be a reason for this and it's probably not vaccines ...I wish you the best of luck at the vets and please let everyone know what they say |
i know how scary it is! my max started having seizures when he was 4 months old and it turned out he had a liver shunt. i would ask my vet to do a liver panel and a bile acid test. i am sure they will find out what is going on and keep us updated!!! |

I just went through the same thing with my Roxy, but she is only 9 months old. Go to the post that says "my dog had 4 seizures", many people gave my excellent advise on that thread. Roxy had 5 seizures when she was 4 months old. Then she was perfectly fine until two weeks ago, she had 7 seizures. It was terrible. She did not get back to herself for a couple of days. She was afraid of her favorite squeaky toy, I thought she got brain damage. Roxy had a bile acid test done. This will tell you if your baby has a problem with the liver. They test before the pup eats and then after they eat.The pup has to fast for 12 hours though, and I think you said your baby is only 2 lbs. Talk to your vet about that. I have learned a lot in these past 2 weeks. If I can help in anyway, please tell me. My heart goes out to you. I know exactly what you are going through. I don't remember having this much worry with any of my kids!! My thoughts are with you, Roxy's Mom, Maria |
How is the baby?? Hi, what did the vet say about your little one?? There are so many reasons for seizures and as small as your baby is, a bile acid salts will be difficult to do because of the fasting. But, a blood panel that includes liver enzymes will give some info. Please let us know as soon as you hear something..Prayers to you and yours.. |
