Thank you, MegansMomma. It's reassuring to see your words. I love her dearly. It's amazing how quickly they capture our hearts. |
I dropped Sydney off this morning at the vet's office. The nurse was very kind, realizing how nervous I was about the surgery. She told me they did a poodle mix about the same size as Syd and the poodle trotted out of the office as if nothing was wrong. The nurse said little dogs do better with this type of surgery than big dogs. And her age (9-months) give her a better chance of a faster recovery. With that said, I'm a nervous wreck. I can call at 2 ET to see how things are going. She will more than likely spend the night at the vet's office. Please keep Sydney in your prayers. Thank you. |

Just catching. Wanted to wish you and Sydney all the best through her sugery today. I am sure you are waiting by the phone. Hugs. I would agree with Ladymom, not all supplements are created equal. Please talk with your vet and make sure that you get a good quality brand of supplement. One of the vets at our practice started Hot Rod on Dasuquin. The best way to describe it cosequin plus. He's been on it or just over a month now and I can see improvement. I have just started Maggie May on it as we just found out she has grade 2 in her knee! she as never shown any signs of any pain or anything. We were shocked. At any rate, she will now be taking that. :) Please let us know how Sydney does. I am can't say that I would let my baby walk out of the vets office, but for sure please follow the vets instructions. As was suggested to me by another YT member--As much as you would like to make your Sydney comfortable, please do not put a bunch of blankets or pillows in with her as she can get caught in them and twist her knee the wrong way. Also, make sure that she doesn't have to walk across slippery floors as she can wipe out on them. I bought an area rug so Hot Rod could stand on while eating. Please feel free to pm with with any questions that you may have. Hugs! Bo |
Thank you, Mom to Hot Rod. I will probably be asking several questions. That is very kind of you to offer information. Unfortunately, the doctor had an unusual amount of emergencies today, including an amputation. Needless to say, the doctor just called and asked that I pick up Sydney and bring her back Wednesday morning. He said he felt terrible and I could tell that he was upset about it. When I called at 2 to check, the nurse then said another woman had called and cussed her out for not getting her dog's spaying done. Well, if it were my dog with an emergency, I would hope they would take my dog over a spaying or even knee surgery. I don't like it, but the doctor is very dedicated and I appreciate that about him. So, we're off to get Syd now and then we'll be bringing her back Wednesday morning at 8 ET. Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. We still need them. Sincerely, Sonya |
Hi Sonya... I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow morning with you take Syndey for her LP surgery. Oh, it was so hard for me when that time came for Snick and I but I want to assure you, all will be GREAT afterward!! BIG BIG BIG Hugs from Snick & Viv |
Thank you, Vivian. I appreciate the words of encouragement. They really do help. I'm looking forward to Thursday when she can come home. |
Sydney is back at the vet's office. I hope to hear something yet this morning. Thank you for your prayers. Syd and Mom need them. :) |
Good News The vet just called. He said everything went well with the surgery. He said after looking at her knees internally, they were very bad. She now has pins and wires in her knees. The doctor also said she's resting comfortably with her head on her toy I packed. She should be able to come home tomorrow afternoon. I asked about seeing her today, and he said that she might become too excited then depressed when I left. I think this will be harder on me than on her. |

It is harder on us that it is them although it is very hard to see you little one all bandaged up. Best of luck tomorrow when you pick Sydney up. I know that you will holding your breath until them. Hugs to you. :) |
Thank you very much, everyone. The prayers are working. I agree...it isn't over until she's in my arms (and has forgiven me). Thank you again for the valuable information and helping me form my decision about having the surgery done. |
Poor little thing! Hope all goes well from here on out and she is home and happy and running around on all 4's soon! :) |
Good wishes Good wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery. You will find this little scrawny chicken leg when the bandages come off. My little Grand-dog-der looked so embarassed of her skinny little leg. She just had a tuft of hair left on her foot and then the long coat from above which was pulled up out of the way. She had a very extensive surgery as well and is healing up great. She is now in the process of slowly regaining muscle on that leg to help keep it stable. Frequent short walks now. When she was first home she was carried in a baby sling cause she wanted to be with her Mommy all the time. Then she progressed to being in a baby playpen and now finally the walks. Yea! |
Thank you for the warning when the bandages are removed. I'm waiting for a call from the vet this morning. He wasn't in yet to give her a look over, but the receptionist said her bedding is being changed and she seemed in good spirits. They haven't tried feeding her breakfast yet, though. She isn't a morning dog. I'm hoping she eats, but if she doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised. She usually gets around to eating around noon. |
Glad to hear that things went well yesterday for Kirby. It will keep getting better once you have Kirby home and in your arms :) |
Sorry to not have posted sooner. I just feel so bad for Sydney. She is home and doing okay. I will post a picture soon of her recovery. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. |
Glad she's home Happy to hear that Sydney is home. You will be very busy for the week. Good luck & hugs! |
1 Attachment(s) Sydney is such a brave, little girl. With the bandages, she can't bend her knees, but she still managers to make her way around and use her litter box. I do carry her for the most part, but she's working hard to overcome her challenging recovery. She's on four different medicines, including Glucosamine in the form of Glyco-Flex chews. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. We do appreciate it. |
Awww bless her sweet little heart. She has been through a lot, but she has a very bright eye about her in the picture. She is so pretty. |
awww, little Sydney looks wonderful for having just had both knees done. She is sure a trooper. :) Please give her kisses and gentle hugs from me. :) Feel free to pm if you have any questions. :) |
My Gracie had both knees done at the same time, at about the same age. She has had a great outcome. It was a long road with recovery and rehab so you will need to plan for that. Looking back I think it was probably a lot harder on me than it was on her. I posted several threads about my experiences. My Holly needs surgery on her left patella, as soon as I can afford it I will have it done. |
Bless her dear sweet heart. What a darling baby. sniff sniff |
Hi Sonya!!!! Awwwwww, Sydney looks in great spirits in the picture you posted!!!! I know how hard this is, but sounds like Syndey wants to use her legs which is a GREAT sign!!! I'm so happy she is home with you and now the healing can begin!!! Snick didn't have his bandages left on so he could bend his knee and attempt to walk normally. Start slow, and she will figure it out. In a week or 2 she will think she is all better and try to move alot, this is when it gets hard, you will have to contain her. We used a small human baby playpen with mesh sides, b/c I can't stand cages. Snick's playpen was 3x3 so it was perfect. Let me know if you have any questions...we are all here for you!!! LOVE!!!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO Vivian ps...I'm on vacation with my husband in Turks & Caicos British Islands and had to log on to see how Syndey was doing!!!! xoxoxoxoxo |
Thank you so much for the well wishes. Syd is adjusting very well. She knows to look at me with her little puppy eyes when she wants a lift, but for the most part, she's walking around with two stiff back legs. The vet's office called yesterday to check on her. Syd's bandages will be removed a week from Monday. I am a bit nervous about how it's going to look. And knowing Syd, it will be difficult to keep her still. She has a crate, a 6' x 8' playpen, and a cone collar. Hopefully this will keep her in check. Vivian--Oh my goodness. You are so sweet. I hope you and your husband have a great time. |
Glad to hear Sydney is in good spirits. :) Like Viv said, once she starts to feeling better, she's going to want to start doing a lot more, just be very careful in how much she moves around, you don't want her to try to much too soon and injure herself. Take a look at my collars in my signature block, the kiss-e collars are so much more comfortable than those darn plastic things. :) Give Sydney kisses and and gentle hugs. :) |
I'm glad to see that Sydney is recovering well. It will be nice to get the bandages off, but she won't be so wild about the collar. I hope you are doing ok, too.:) |
Oh wow. I wish I would have known about the softee collar before I got one from the vet's office. Nobody's fault but my own for not researching. I've had to use the plastic cone on her a couple of times because she started chewing on the bandages. She doesn't look very happy in it. I don't blame her. I would be claustrophobic. |
