I"m sure she misses her momma and the babies.
Did he say if she will be able to nurse the puppies ??
Keeping You, Livi and the babies in my though and I hope
you all have a good nite and a better tomorrow.

That is one question that I did actually remember to ask when she called me this afternoon. She told me definitely not tonight and probaby not at all, but that she would talk more with the vet about that. That is one of the questions that I made my husband write down for when he went to pick her up....but at the least, we are definitely looking at bottle feeding tonight and the morning.

Thank you to all of the breeders that jumped on here with advice...also, thanks to the nonbreeders for your help, too!

Oh good, you found out! How odd she said "catheter" -- that'd be very confusing for people. Usually, a vet or tech would just say "IV" if it's an IV cath.

Oh you've been through the wringer today, HANG IN! :)

She told me that earlier today...
"IV Catheter"
"IV Meds"
"X-Ray"
"Ultrasound"
"Bloodwork"

These are all of the things that I wrote down, as she was saying what all they had done. I know that when my kitty was sick, a different tech also used that term. I dunno. :)

New thread for support/prayer messages!

I am starting a new thread because many of us want to offer Tammy our support and send our prayers, but don't want to confuse/clutter the thread where she is getting advice and support.

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/spe...ml#post2974743

Feel free to post your prayers and support messages there and keep the advice/information on this thread. I think it will really help keep the confusion level down.

BIG HUGE HUGS!!

Judy, that is VERY VERY kind of you!!! I do appreciate it....more than you know!

Tammy,
Just now seeing this. You poor girl!! I was so hoping everything would be just perfect this time around with out any scares or worries. I read through the whole thread before commenting...and am so relieved to hear Livi is fine and on her way home!! :)

BaxtersMommy 01-27-2010 04:53 PM

I just saw this! Praying for Livi and sending prayers to you for comfort.

luckylady 01-27-2010 04:55 PM

:( Oh man Tammy; I am just seeing this news and cannot believe my eyes. Three healthy puppies, daylight/evening whelp, no c-section................everything was going so well. I am so relieved to read that Livi will be home with you and her babies tonight. One thing going for you and those puppies if you do have to bottle feed them is that they all started out with nice healthy weights & got a good start in their life. Looking forward to see them continue to do well. Hugs girlfriend.

TammyJM 01-27-2010 06:03 PM

I just wanted to thank Mary for the whelping pudding recipe that she has shared with us. Livi has already eaten some for me. :)

Off-topic...Livi's babies had their appointment set up for 11am today to get dewclaws and tails done. With everything that happened today, there was no way that I was going to add to the stress for Livi or around here so my babies will have full tails (just like their older brother, Wrigley). :D My parti babies will be masquerading as Biewers with that full tail. ;)

This makes sense :)! I must've misread somewhere...I thought the vet or tech just said "catheter" to you. In the human field, when catheter is used alone, it's usually thought of as a "urinary catheter", whereas an IV Catheter is usually called an "IV" or as above (like you just wrote) an "IV Catheter" or "IV line" / "IV access" -- but I haven't heard "catheter" alone like that, except as urinary (again, in human). I.e., in the human field, if someone said "they have a catheter and an IV in" - to me, that would mean "they have a urinary cath in and an IV line in". Sorry if I was confused and/or confused things :confuse2:.

I'm just glad to hear she is home and on the mend, this is wonderful :).

mypreciouspups 01-27-2010 07:34 PM

Oh Tammy I have not been online much lately and I missed all of what has been going on with Livi, read every post and am so glad to see she is home from the vets.. I will now keep a good watch on your thread...How stressful for you and can surely understand what you have been going through.
And never beat yourself up,, from what I have read you got her to the vet pretty quickly...

Yes, we are thrilled to have Livi home with us...very thankful after knowing how sick she was!

As for catheter/IV catheter...sorry that I wrote it incorrectly. I am sure that I was typing quickly and trying to get as many of my thoughts relayed as clearly as I could. It has been an EXHAUSTING week...actually, the past three weeks have been almost a blur with how tired I am. Again, sorry for typing this without adding the right letters in front of the word 'catheter'. It's amazing that I was able to type at all with how swollen, blurry and burning my eyes were at all.

BamaFan121s 01-27-2010 07:40 PM

I have been following this on and off all day. I am happy to see that as I check it tonight, Livi is back home with her worried Mama where she belongs. I hope she is back on her feet soon! Hope you can get at least *some* rest tonight Tammy and hoping that the morning finds Livi rested and revived. :)

LOL, you can't apologize bc I already did :p! I feel bad bc I probably freaked you right out saying "urinary catheter?" - but that's really what I thought. Just ignore me except for the HUGS and stuff - and listen to the breeders - this isn't my area, girl! :)

But this is my area: {{{{HUGS}}}} :D:D:D

Tammy I am just seeing this, girl what a week, I am so thankful she is doing so much better, I can just imagine how scared you had to be. I will be praying for you both, and you know I am here for you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get good news tomorrow at the Vets.

Wow, I just saw this thread. Tammy I am glad that Livi is home now and things are getting better. Anything I can do to assist let me know.

YorkieRealtor 01-27-2010 08:58 PM

Hi,

I am so glad to hear that your Livi is ok. Things like that are so scary . . . and now your work has just begun with the puppies. I would imagine that they are going to tell you tomorrow that she cannot nurse her puppies. If so, my one tip would be to make sure you have a very good scale and start weighing them 3-4 times a day. A gram scale works well. Keep a journal with the weights. Also record the exact amount each puppy eats and the time of the feeding. This will make it easier for you to make adjustments. There are some great small animal nipples made for feeding wildlife. I just did a quick google search and found this link. I am sure there are many more, and you can sometimes find things like this at a farmer's supply or feed store. Squirrel and animal feeding nipples
These will fit on the end of a syringe and I think they work better than nipples made for human infants/premies. I have had great luck with goat's milk from the grocery store in situations like this.
I hope this helps you a little. Sleep whenever you can! You will need it.
Best wishes!

Tammy, wow, I am just now seeing this!! I am soooo glad Livi is doing better and on the road to recovery. What a scare!! It sure has been a stressful week for you.

If you have to feed her babies I would use a syringe or a dropper. You can control the flow better and it's easier to get them to take plus you will know exactly how much they are getting. Just don't forget to rub their tummies afterwords.

Sending hugs to you and Livi!!

Keep us updated on her progress!!

What a relief. Now take a deep breath and try to enjoy the good things. :)

Anyone know how little Livi is doing this afternoon?

I haven't been on FB or YT for a couple of days & was shocked to find this on top of the threads & my heart sank when I read the title...
Tammy, so so glad that Livi is doing better. Please keep us posted on how she's doing. Get well wishes & prayers going your way.
About the parti babies having full tails, awesome!

lil fu fu girl 01-28-2010 02:25 PM

Just checking in to see how Livi is doing today.
Thank goodness you were right on top of it and got her into the doctor.
Best wishes.....

Tammy, I have been away for a few days and am just now reading this. I am sorry to hear about Livi and the puppies. I am glad that she is doing better. If you recall, this happened to Ellie (the eclampsia) earlier in December. Well, we hand raised our litter. I went to Wal-Mart and got the premie bottles and fed them with those. It worked great for us using the goats milk to equal parts water. The babies will be 11 weeks old this Saturday. If you need any advice, or someone to lean on, please pm me and I will give you my private email address. You can do this. I hope that Livi continues to do well.

bjh 01-28-2010 03:10 PM

Tammy, I am just now seeing this. I pray Levi and her babies are doing okay. I know this has been a nightmare for you. Hugs.
