Doggie Diarrhea My 4 year old Yorkie had an anal gland infection a couple of months ago and the vet I took him too gave me antibiotics. Although the anal gland isn't infected anymore, my Yorkie has had soft or loose stools for the last 2 months. I have given him doggie probiotics since he has a sensitive digestive system with his food on a daily basis and saw improvement in his stool for a little while. We just moved into a new apartment so I know he has been stressed and that may be part of the cause of his current diarrhea. I have given him Pepto and continued with the probiotics but I'm not seeing any improvement. Does anyone have any idea what I might be dealing with for my poor little Reggie? He seems healthy other than his stool and has had a good appetite. Thanks for any suggestions and/or ideas. |
You might want to try canned pumpkin. It does wonder's for diareaha. It's all natural and hopefully won't upset her tummy. Has she been wormed? |
going thru a rough patch here with my Bells also. cant get her to eat anything finally got some chicken in her. But for all the diarrhea i had some childrens imodium AD. you could try that. |
So I've been feeding Reggie and Sophie white rice and chicken baby food for about a week and it's done wonders for Reggie's diarrhea. I realized they were getting hungry, kind of like when we eat Chinese food, so I decided to give them a little of their Royal Canin dry food to supplement. That seemed ok for a couple of days but this morning Reggie has diarrhea again. He's acting fine and eating and drinking well. I'm getting frustrated. I give him Pepto when he has diarrhea which seems to help calm it down. I don't know if the dry dog food is causing a problem? It's the same kind I've fed them for a couple of years that never caused a problem before. Also, they are both getting bitten by fleas since we moved from Oklahoma City to San Antonio. I've never had a flea problem with them before so I don't know if it's the city we live in or the new apartment that seems pretty immaculate and I vacuum it regularly? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on the diarrhea? |
I would be inclined to think Reggie has developed a food intolerance/allergy to his current dry dog food. I would consider switching to a holistic food with ingredients that are different from what he's eating at this time. If the Royal Canin has chicken or lamb, maybe you could try the Natural Balance L.I.D diet with sweet potato and venison or potato and duck. Most likely Reggie hasn't been exposed to these proteins and hasn't developed any sensitivities to them at this point. Pepto is good for infrequent use, but I wouldn't want to use it regularly. Poor guy! Its the pits to not feel well on top of a big move like that! |
