| We were very happy with MSU until this incident. I don't know if maybe we got a poor ER dr. or what. The regular vets we usually see up there have been so great with both dogs, this was a real disappointment. The blood tests are as follows: BUN 16 Glu 93 ALP 140 T-Pro 5.3 ALT 35 Cre 0.6 WBC 15.1 LYMF 4.6 GRAN 9.2 MID 8.5 HCT 45.2 MCV 64.0 RBC 7.06 HGB 16.0 MCH 22.7 MCHC 35.5 RDW% 12.5% MPV 10.0 PLT 351 I'm sure this will all make more sense to you than it does to me. Toby has done very well since coming home. No vomiting, has been playing and even went for a walk yesterday. He's not crazy about the EN food, but we're working with him on that. He's not used to canned food and I thought he'd like it much more than he seems to. I'm now warming it up for him and that seems to help a bit. I truly don't know what to think, or where to go from here. I've always heard that MSU is one of the very best, and like I said, the 2 vets that he sees regularly there have been fantastic. We're due to have Lola spayed next month, so I have to figure something out pretty soon.

| Hi I am new here Thinking of you and Toby hope he pulls through. From experience my Sidney suffers from Chronic Pancreatitis but I feel my old vet (have wonderful vet now) missed it many times when he had acute bouts as a youngster. Has your vet checked his blood for amylase and lipase enzymes (fat and protein?) If they are present at high levels in the blood, it could be pancreatitis. Is he holding his tummy tight? Maybe get a second opinion if you are not happy. A blood test is all you need to look at these enzymes (comprehensive blood profile - possibly take a little while to get the results but you would be sure). In the meantime in case it is, make sure not to give him anything fatty. Boiled Chicken and Rice or boiled white fish and rice. Just suggestions always talk to your vet first. It is managable with diet if it is Pancreatitis but be aware that you need to tell others not to feed anything you have not authorised as a fatty treat could land him in the emergency room. Steroids and NSAID's will probably make Toby vomit and have diarrhoea as Sidney cannot tolerate any of these. Good luck to you. I have posted all about Sidney on the emergency board as he was poorly yesterday, but doing better now. As I say I am new, so probably posting in all the wrong places Our thoughts are with you Kerry and Neil, Sidney, Gypsy and Alice |

the true test for pancreatitis is spec cpli as amylase and lipase are not always accurate in diagnosis | |

| SPEC CPLI tests the pancreas and specific to pancreas and tli is also to do with pancreas but determines epi where as cpli determine pancreatitis - make sure your vet has the snap cpli test in house as if you have to send to lab it takes 3-4 days to come back |
