| I can't reach the vet!!! Bailey had poop that was mushy with what looked like blood mixed in yesterday, Probably stressed from his long flight, and I want to take him to the vet to get it checked on, everyone suggested I take a poop sample and I did that last night, today is poop looks almost normal. I can't reach the vet, there is no answer, we are hopefully getting a new vet in our area, this vet is horrible, she has even refused to treat animals if she dislikes the owner! I will comtinue to try and reach her.. in the meantime Baileys poop as improved alot thankfully. How long can they have coccidia or gardia before it gets really serious and beyond help? I'm so mad. Here is another pic of my little fellow I just snapped. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=59541

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | He "looks" alert and clear-eyed in that pic, so that's good...he sure is darling. The question you asked is tough to answer bc there are so many factors involved in outcomes, and every dog is different. If his poo is looking a bit better, that is a good sign. However, I'd still get a fecal test asap no matter what. You'll get him through this - keep him hydrated, don't introduce any new foods, if he gets lethargic give Nutrical -- and get him to that vet as you're planning.

| Did he come with the appropriate Health Certificate showing he had a vet check up within the last few days before departure? If so, he probably is just stressed and not infected. But you have good advice to get the fecal sample in to a vet this morning. That will tell if there is something going on viral or parasite wise. IT was probably quite a stress on a 9 week pup to travel by plane. Did he have to go in cargo? That has to be horrifying for the little ones.

| about your puppy He is adorable and he looks very bright eyed in the picture,it could be adustment he is going thru, plus the plane ride,If his poop is getting better, try not to worry to much, but definetly take him to a vet to be on the safe side, I take it that you just got him,he needs to be checked by a vet anyway. |

| Yes he came with a health record. I'm still trying to reach the vet. I contacted the breeder and she said to give him kayopetate or bipto bismal (sp) Good lord, I'm scared to give him any of that stuff.

| Sometimes the stress of coming to a new home will bring out coccidia. All puppies are born with it but few actually get it. The pepto bismal won't hurt him. |

| I finally got hold of the vet and explained the situation and she cannot see him until 10 tomorrow morning!! She just asked if he was eating, I really despise this vet, she is so uncaring.

How is his poo doing? Is his energy okay? Gums still pink? Still drinking okay? Hang in there and please don't be afraid to post and ask for more help if you need it. Everyone is so helpful here and you're not alone.

| There is no other vet within 2 or 3 hours of you? I can't believe this "vet" gets away with that. All you can do is make sure he stays hydrated.

| about the vet If this is the only vet you can get and no closer than 3hrs. away, either this vet is terribly busy[which I dont think thats an excuse] or he is just raking in the money and that is all he is concerned about, unblievable. |

| Yes, this is the only vet, the next one is nearly an 8 hr drive away. A puppy died here not to long ago because the owner couldn't reach the vet on the weekend. I hope we get another one here soon. Bailey is doing good, at least he seems so. I haven't seen any more blood in the poop, and it's not watery anymore, just soft poop. I still have my sample from last night, should I bring that into the vet? Bailey seems perfect, takes naps, wakes up, eats ( I have mixed some yogurt in with his food, and gave him some chicken) plays like a crazy puppy, poops, pees, naps again, etc! I am hoping this is not serious.
