Gme Hi All, I am new to this forum but have a very poorly toy yorkie. Princess Emillie is 15 months old and has just been diagnosed with GME, she is undergoing chemo and has been taking tablets but things are not working out as they should!! Has anyone ever come across this illness and understand any of the treatments and prognosis?? xx:animal-pa |
Ahhh....I am so sorry... I don't know much about the disease, but if you go up to the blue tool bar, you'll see a seach button. I suggest searching for the full name of GME, as I know I have seen threads in past regarding it (I just don't recall how to spell it out ;)) |
Thank you so much TLC for your kind words xx:animal-pa |
GME is a devastating illnesses. I am so sorry your girl has been diagnosed with it. There is quite a bit of information about GME on the Yorkie Angel Patrol website: gme GME is thought to be genetic so make sure you tell your breeder about her diagnosis. |
GME Site I am so sorry your fur baby has been diagnosed with this but there is hope. My Yorkie has a form of GME called Necrotizing Encephalitis and she was diagnosed in September. The vet originally thought she would live a week or two. If you read up on this disease most articles will say there isn't a lot of hope. Don't believe that. My Gidget is on a treatment plan and doing very well. When she was diagnosed she was totally blind and could barely walk. She know has regained most of her eye sight back and walks normal. She will be on the treatment plan for about a year to year and a half and her prognosis is very hopeful. Here is the link to the group: NewGMEDogs : NewGMEDogs Here is the link to the doctor in Boston: MSPCA-Angell: Please take a look. There is much information and a doctor in Boston who has a 90% success rate in putting this deadly disease into remission. The Doctor in Boston uses a more aggressive treatment than most vets and neurologists. He will consult for a small fee with your regular vet or neurologist. I live in KC and my Neurologist consulted with this doctor to put Gidget on a treatment plan that to date has been very successful. I hope you will take a look. Feel free to email me directly with any questions. This Yorkie Forum and the yahoo site have helped me deal with this horrible disease and find the best treatments for my Gidget. Lee Ann |
princess Emillie Hi all, Just to let you know that I have been to see Emillie today and she has much improved. Emillie will be having more chemo tonight but may be well enough to come home on Monday... Things had been looking bleak this week, mostly the fact there was no change she could not walk and had lost her sparkle, the neurologist decided that the only thing left was to do chemo a week earlier than planned and cross our fingers that this would control this aggressive GME!!! Well it seems that it may well have done the trick today Emillie can stand unaided but still can't walk so we are hoping that tomorrow she may very well make a few steps.... I could only wish that no other dog or owner should ever go through this but I feel with education and research we may all be saved the heartache... Thank you for all your kind wishes and advice it has truly helped me cope with the situation and when I thought there was no hope you offered support and encouragement. For now I don't know what the future holds but the hope of having Emillie home is enough for now Maxine (Emillies mum) xxx :animal-pa |
Welcome to YT. I'm sorry it's under these circumstances. I definetly would inform the Breeder. I'll be praying for you, and your baby. |
Thank you for the wlecome!! There is little point telling the breeder I feel they just breed for money, but glad I saved my princess from them... xx |
Princess Emillie Hi All, I thought I would give you an update! Emillie came home today and I can't tell you how delighted I am. Emillie is still sick and has lots of medication too, she is still unable to walk but can stand for short periods. The neurologist has said to see how she goes and would hope to see improvement by friday, either way she wants me to ring and then we can discuss any further action. I am hoping and praying that Emillie will get stronger by the day and come friday I can share the good news with the neurologist. Thank you all for your kind words and support they are much appreciated Maxine and Princess Em xx:):animal-pa |

Princess Emillie Hi All, I haven't been on here for a little while so thought it best I update you all. Over the course of the last month or so Emillie has been in and out of hospital as the GME is really got a hold on her. She has had 3 sessions of chemo as well as taking a lot of medication!!! After the second dose of Chemo Emillie was great for 2 days then became quite withdrawn (her poor tiny body shouldn't have to have all these drugs!!!) She was readmitted and the managed to get her to a stage that she could walk eat and generally be happy in herself, again this lasted about a week and in the end she was going back to walking in circles not being able to stand and not being able to go to the toilet properly herself. Due to the bad effects she was readmitted and they gave her chemo early which seemed to do just the trick. After the 3rd dose she came home and I have to say we had a week with her and she was almost as she was prior to the illness!! Unfortunately she has now taken a bad turn and the drugs don't seem to be working she has gone back to collapsing walking in circles, but now cries alot... Today she has been readmitted and is being given the final drug available to her we will know in 48 hours if this has been a success if she does not respond I am told there is nothing more that can be done for her. It pains me to see how this illness has effected her, it seems she has the more severe form of gme and it was just in the back of her brain but has now spread... I would like to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers it has been of great comfort to me.... Maxine xxx:( |
Hi I have just seen this thread on Emillie and Iam so sorry that your little one is going through all of this right now. We are hoping that you can get some treatment that will work longterm for you little one.:animal-pa |
Princess Emillie Hi Julie, Alfie and Lottie, Thank you for your message. Unfortunately Princess came home today but it is not to be for long the final drugs she has had have not worked and I have been told there is nothing more that can be done. I am devasted b this but can't see her suffer, she is now blind in one eye and is losing the use of her back legs. I am hoping to spend the next day or so spoiling her rotten with all her favorite treats. Trying not to think about the day I have to say goodbye!!!!! It has been a tough battle and no amount of money has helped but I have to take comfort from the pleasure she has brought to my life... Maxine and Princess Em xxx |
princess Emillie Hi All, Just to let you know Princess Em joined friends old and new in the land where there is no illness and only happiness last night. I would like to thank all for kind wishes throughout our plight but the GME was too severe to fight... xxx |
