Worms I just recently got a new addition she is one year old. I took her to the vet they performed a fecal exam it came back fine. Three weeks later she was spayed now 14 days after the spaying I have noticed she has worms in her stools. They were dead but also on her bedding she is on inerceptor and from what I have been told this is to worm her each month as well. Why does she have worms???? Did she get it from the vets office. She has had them for longer than the 14 days because of her bedding looking the way it does I just noticed them in her stools they are coming out at night while she sleeps. |

I think it depends on the type of worm or parasite you're talking about. Tapeworms are a result of fleas and you can have an occurrence thirty days after a treatment since the eggs...or whatever. I'm not a vet! lol Anyway, take a photo or call the vet and describe. They will be the best ones to give advice and they know what's in the area, etc... and the medications/vaccines she's received. Gizmo had a lot of parasites when we got him and the tapeworms were the biggest nightmare to get rid of. You have to do a double treatment to catch the eggs just right, and it's a good idea to be on a flea preventative as well. You also have to deflea your house, your carpet, your yard...what a pain! |
The monthly dewormer is an essential to good health. Some worms can lie dormant in soft tissue and will not be killed by the monthly. This can happen when mothers give birth and the worm can be passed to the puppy. The puppy may have picked up the worms from something outside like eating droppings from another animal. If she had been treated for worms just before you got her they might not show up on a fecal, but if there are worms present it will likely take several treatments to get them all. It sounds like the Interceptor is working like it should. |
Inceptor: Protects against roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum) and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis). Also, heartworm but she must have a heartworm test first to see if she is a carrier. Also, it sounds like you have tapeworms The Tapeworm Page which the Inceptor doesn't cover, just prevention from fleas. You can see the worm segments in their stool, dried brown rice like segments on their bedding. A good cure is Dontral Plus and covers all of the parasites. Tapeworms eventually cause their stool be become bloodly and be loose. This is a common parasite even when treating with Inceptor, etc. Good luck and I would recommend buying from the vet, not over the counter. |
