A great medicine for the itchies I have had a lot of trouble with Sawyer scratching his hair out. He has no fleas, no dry skin, just the itchies. He has scratched a lot of his hair out. We gave him benedryl, but just no relief. My vet gave me a prescription for temaril-p tablets. They are wonderful!! He gets a 1/4 of a tablet the first day, and then after 5 days 1/4 tablet once a day. The itchies are gone:thumbup: He is not sleepy or off his food; he just isn't itching day and night. I am so relieved. it is so hard to watch them scratch and know it is driving them crazy. We live in Florida, and this time of year, pollen is everywhere. If anyone has this same problem ask your vet about this medication, it worked for us:) |
Great info-thanks for letting us know. I'm sure that someone will benefit from knowing that this wonderful medication is out there :) My girls have gotten allergy "itches" too, but benadryl usually helps them with that, and it's usually short lived, thank goodness! |
Do you know if it is a steroid based medicine? Cali is just finishing her steroid combo antibiotic meds and her itching has decreased but when I started to reduce the dosage as instructed her itching picked up. She is starting Atopica as soon as she finishes this med, which is pretty pricey, 2.00 a pill and needs one a day. But like you said anything to stop their misery. |

My Maggie is the same way. I'm tired of people making fun of her. Are you going to try the Temaril tablets? Does your Yorkie stink after it has been outside? |
Thanks for the advice. I have been giving Murfee Benadryl and it doesn't help much. |

Do you know if her allergies are food related? Mitzi had the same thing and after I switched her to home cooked it was gone. Now she is on Hill's k/d b/c of her kidney disease but she still doesn't itch. Maggie itches too and is on Hill's z/d... it helps her too... |
She is on Royal Canin IVD Limited Ingredient prescription food but personally I don't think it's a food allergy. Prior to our many trips to the vet for the scratching she was eating NV Raw and she still scratched. Of course the vet didn't approve of the raw diet and at that time we would have tried about anything she was scratching so much. |
