| Puppy w/ mucusy/blood tinged stool Diesel had a bm this morning that had some yellow mucus that was pinkish tinged. There was no bright or dark red blood, but just pink tinged mucus along with a slightly loose stool. I am guessing its something he ate? He is acting normal otherwise. I gave my big dogs a couple of table scraps last night, and I am wondering if they shared with him and it upset his tummy

| It could have been caused by something he ate but it could also be an indication of coccidia. If it continues it would be best to get him checked by the vet. |

| I will keep a close eye on him today. I am home all day with him, so I will be able to pay close attention. I dont want to put him out to go potty because I want to be able to monitor his stools. Perhaps if I put a paper down I can get him to go on that?

| If he is used to potting outside then you don't have to break his routine but just stay with him so you will know how his stools are. |

| I would at least speak with my vet,and make sure to get a sample if they want one. I would not think he would have pinkish tinged and mucus stool if it was just something he ate, good day to go to the vets though if you have it off. Last edited by 011011; 02-27-2008 at 06:48 AM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | At this age, puppies can easily (and quickly) ingest something that could cause a mucus reaction that in turn could cause a bit of blood (pinkish/reddish). Keep a very, very close eye on it. If it continues, worsens, turns to diarrhea - get to a vet for a stool check - bc then you'd want to consider coccidia, giardia etc. (or at least rule it out).

With baby people, mucusy blood tinged stools usually mean a food allergy, unless it is REALLY bloody, then it would warrent danger. So thats where I figured maybe it was something he ate. We had a dobe that would have horribly bloody diarrhea whenever she would go for a car ride or get nervous. What a horrible mess that was. He had a normal bm now, so I am still just keeping an eye on it. He has an appointment for his 2nd set of shots and check up coming up soon.

| I have everyday "off" lol. I am a stay at home mom. So I guess I dont really have it off per say, but I dont have to go away to work With baby people, mucusy blood tinged stools usually mean a food allergy, unless it is REALLY bloody, then it would warrent danger. So thats where I figured maybe it was something he ate. We had a dobe that would have horribly bloody diarrhea whenever she would go for a car ride or get nervous. What a horrible mess that was. LOl that is so nice then you do not have to worry as you are around all the time. I am a stay at home mom also but do day care also. I bought a pup 2 years ago and he just had a mucusy stool so I thought I would just take a sample in and it turned out to be coccidia,so you do not have to have blood to have that .I might have caught it right away also. |

| I called the vet, actually his vet, since they have seen him when the breeder brought him in ther for his puppy check and shots, and talked to my moms friend who has been the vet tech there for over 20 years. She said to keep an eye on him and that it could be something he ate, but to watch him. He is super gassy right now. Lots of stinky puppy toots. I might get him some mylicon drops if it isnt better soon.
