please help chanel ate chocolate. I dont know what to do Chanel had some tootsie rolls and resses piecs today.Shes not acting sick but an hour ago she threw up and now she has diarhea.I know chocolate is toxic.I callled the vet and the emergency service had some guy who doesnt know what hes talking about. He wasnt much help. Can someone please help me.Im freaking out. |
Do you know how many she ate? Amount is important. I would take her in to an emergency vet right away. If it was that long ago, I doubt that it would help to make her throw up more, so I think the emergency vet is your best bet. If the guy you called wasn't helpful, I would try a different one. Good luck and keep us posted! :( |
I don't think there is anything you can do at this point but get her to the vet. I don't know how much she ate but if she has the runs and vomiting I would say more than enough. It can kill them and she should go tonight. |
What did they tell you to do? Induce vomiting? It depends how much was consumed. A small amount might not be toxic. It sounds like she is having problems though. Two kinds of candy seems like a lot. I would go to the vet. She might need an IV. |
I dont think she had too much of it.I found her trying to eat the reeses pieces and she had eaten 1/4 of one.The tootsie roll was just something she chewed on with the wrapper but didnt get much out of it. |

To hear you decribe it it doesn;'t sound like much but I would think that if it's enough to cause vomiting and stuff that it may be more than you think. |

Hope and pray Chanel will be just fine...hopefully when she puked she was able to rid her body of some of the toxin and the diarrhea will get rid of whatever is left. Watch her carefully, make sure she drinks plenty of water to keep her hydrated...if you notice her acting different, lethargic...get her to the ER Vet ASAP. Chanel...no more candy for you, okay? |
How long after she ate the candy did she throw up? |
Watch for her to get really nervous and hyper, elevated heart beat. I hate to admit this, but I had a scare last year. I had my dad's dog, cocker, Alphy and Abby. They had gotten into a bag of Hershey dark chocolate miniture bars. The kids called me about it. Of course i got kid like answers when I tried to question them about it, how long has it been, how much, etc. I had hoped Abby 70+lbs got more then the smaller ones just for the fact she could tolerate it more then the other 2. Of course I flew home and found thrown up wrappers. I was panicked. About 10 minutes later Alphy started running laps around the house so I knew he'd gotten to it too (about an hour after digestion). His heart was beating mile a minute too. I immediately gave both Alphy and Lucky (cocker) peroxide and they instantly vomited. It was gross and then I gave them both activated charcoal to absorb the rest. Thankfully they were ok. It's scary. Alphy is 9lbs and yours is way littler, but it doesn't sound like she ate enough but just keep a close eye on her. Big hugs because I totally know how you feel. |

Heres a website... This has helped me alot with Riley. http://pets.robbiehaf.com/chocolate.htm It has alot of information in case of emergencies. |
Try and talk to the vet and not the guy who answered. I honestly don't know and don't want to steer you wrong. Only you know her behavior so it's hard for me to say. Initially since it's been so long I'd like to say I think she'll be ok, but I don't want that resonsibility if you know what I mean. If something happened I'd feel horrible. |

I think the hyperactivity is from the caffeine and sugar rush...just watch her, she probably won't be sleeping much tonight...sorry. |

Bailey accidentally ate a reeses peanut butter cup one night last year. My grandma was opening the packaging and the cup flipped onto the floor. Bailey is so funny b/c if you drop food on the he will race to get it and then run away with it (so you have to be quicker and careful)... but if I try to give him something, he acts as if I'm poisoning him...lol... Anyway, he was just fine. He threw up one time and had diarrhea once (with a few loose stools to follow). Bailey also has a very weak tummy and is on special ID food (from the vet). I would just watch her closely and make sure she's staying hydrated with water. If she is still throwing up within the next hour, I would take her in. Good luck and my thoughts will be with you. :animal-pa |
chanel Oh I am just reading this now, hope baby chanel is ok now.. I have always given peroxide if for some reason a dog has gotten something they should not have.. I had a rescue that was on nerve pills and a baby that was quicker, my sister ended up letting the wrong one have the nerve pill, he was so tiny also.. I called the vet right away and that is what I was told to do..it worked, I was nervous..but once he got sick he was ok.. Please let us know how she is doing..she will be on my mind tonight now.. thoughts are with your at this time.. pooh's mum |

Diggy ate chocolate before and quite a bit more than chanel did so I really think your fine. Darker chocolate is a lot more toxic than say milk chocolate or a tootsie roll. If this ever happens again give a 1/2 tbsp of peroxide and induce vomiting but thats only if you catch it in the first 1/2 hour to 45 minutes after that its too late but if she vomitted on her own thats just her bodys way of getting rid of what her body is not accepting. Im glad she was sleeping and is better now :) |
How is she today? |
She is doing well. She seemed uncomfortable last night.I tried to keep her right next to me.I figured if she got seizures I could feel it and realize. She didnt want any part of that. She wanted to sleep at the foot of my bed.I then put her in her little crate that is right next to me.Its like her crate is my nightstand. She seemed fine after that.Today she has had no diarhea or vomiting. She realy hasnt eaten much though but that is usually the case with her.Thank you guys so much for keeping her in your prayers.Im sure god was listening because My baby is ok today. If there are any changes I will let you know. |
Thank God Chanel is doing alright today...I kept her in my prayers last night, and will say another for her tonight as well. |
Yeah! Glad to know she's doing okay today. :) |
