27 years old.....lost my first 2 yorkies within 3 months, and realized the devastating heartbreak unethical breeders carelessly shatter our souls, with no concern or remorse......it was then I then decided to dedicate my life to learn everything I would need to know about this precious, magnificent breed.....health issues, pedigrees and their importance, distinguished lines, breeding and all the principles that govern a successful breeding program, etc. Only then, after I felt confident and knowledgable enough to start my own breedingg program, after 22 years of studying, seminars, continuing education, mentors, dog shows, etc., did I start producing Rosehill babies, healthy babies that arenot mistakes or accidents, but well managed, well controlled, totally planned and expected precious babies. I am certainly NOT out of the ordinary....ANY dedicated, responsible, ethical breeder knows this very same path, the very same way. Why do I go here with this rambling muse?? Simply to explane to people what separates people "producing puppies"' and ethical, knowledgable breeders. Perhaps people will understand why responsible breeders/show breeders, absolutely grieve when we see what level of "breeding",has become totally acceptable and even commended and praised as "wonderful"......respect for all those outstanding tenacious, determined breeders developing distinguishd, established, winning, gorgeous Yorkies that carry this breed into the future, thank YOU for leavng YOUR indellible marks on our breed. |
49.... I NEVER expected to have a small dog but it has worked out pretty well. |

Recieved Rasta at 25 as a bday present :) |
50 when I got my boy George Had a labrador before and wanted a smaller dog, wouldn't have been able to afford a Yorkie before then anyway. Will be Yorkies for me from now on though, best breed around I reckon anyway. |
27, almost 28 :yorkiej: lilah is my first :) I waited four years after the Yorkshire terrier caught my eye though and I had a sweet little pappillion from 15-22 that I loved dearly. |
I got my first Yorkie, Bailey, when I was 23 and just married. I loved that dog dearly and still miss her to this day. Then we started having children and as they got older and Bailey died, we all wanted another dog but my kids always chose other breeds (we had a poodle and a Sheltie that I loved dearly - and as soon as my older 2 kids were in college and their childhood dogs passed away :-( (from old age) I found myself at home with only one child in high school and my son and I couldn't stand not having a dog so he got an English Springer and I decided to get my very own dog - just for me :-)...so, at 47 I got Charlie. I had been wanting another Yorkie for years!! He's 3 1/2 now and I can't imagine life without him. He is the biggest most lovable 4 pounds in my life! Next year my youngest will be in college and my nest will be empty - except for Emma (the ESS) and Charlie my yorkie. I am so thankful I will have them to keep me company. I love that Charlie can go almost everywhere with me - I have to board our ESS when I travel/visit my family. Sadly, she doesn't travel as easily at 35 pounds. Yorkies are THE best! :-) |
