What did you do to make your puppy's ears stand? Just wondering who did what! |
As you can tell by my Avatar, Taz has "Dumbo" ears. He was 10 months old when we got him. According to my mil, she claims she used to talk to him above his head and massage his ears since he was born. LOL. His brothers ears do not stand up at all. |
oh, bless his little heart! what a cutie!! |
Maxi's ears were standing up already when I got him. When he was teething one went down so I shaved his ears to make sure it was up :) |
I got my pup at 12 weeks and one of his ears wasn't up but the other one was....over the next 2 weeks that I had him it went up on its own. Way to go Derby!:) |
Hi Lauren, I am offering this website as a possible solution for droopy ears. This is such a great site with all kinds of information on yorkie care. Jon-An's Yorkshire Terriers (How to train Yorkies ears to stand) |
Andy did it on his own. Stormy I had to shave and tape. |

Thanks, I appreciate it! Lily is 12 weeks and both are still down... but terribly cute! I'm just waiting and seeing at this point, but might shave and/or tape in the next couple weeks. To my knowledge they haven't been up at all yet. |
Some breeders recommend taping at 7 weeks if the ears aren't up on their own. The more developed the cartlidge is in the ear, the harder it is to bring the ear up. |
Slade's a mix so I didn't worry about making his stand. They stood on their own for a bit, and would have probably continued to stand if I wouldve taped or shaved, but I liked his ears floppy. |
All Natural When we bought Artie, he was quite older for a puppy @ 5 months so his ears were already standing. When I got Abigail she was 3 months old and her ears were already standing as well. When Artie & Abigail had a Litter, I kept the runt "Tiffany Aloha" her nickname is Pom Pom. Iv'e had her since she was born, at around 8-10 wks. of age all 3 of their puppies ears were standing on their own. I had also started shaving their ears (3/4 tipped as instructed by all the Yorkie Books I had read) at about 6 wks. of age. I also fed them "Cottage Cheese" for the extra Calcium, so their ears would have strong Cartilage since puppies need so much Calcium to grow, for their teeth & bones. I used to be a "Personal Trainer" so I train and feed my Yorkies as if they were "Athletes". I excercise them alot compared to others. So I think the combination of Breeding, shaving and Diet played a big role? Most of the time when I see other Yorkie's with Floppy ears, they are not well Groomed. I'm sure that is has to do with their moods too, as well as their "Confidence" & "Personality"? Yorkie's Love to Show-Off, prance & parade. |
oooh, I just thought of another question: If I shave Lily's ears, how long will it take for the hair to grow back? |
Ferdinand's left ear was already standing when we got him, but we just left his right ear alone and it came up on its own. :) |
Smokey's ears have pretty much always been up....i got him at 12 1/2 weeks and they were beautiful.....my breeder said his ears were already standing before 2 weeks.....he has the cutest ears...and you can tell when he is happy cause they go back like you are pinning them back.....so cute |
Lexie came to me with her ears already up...so I put 'did nothing'. For Beau, we didn't tape or shave them, but the vet gave us specific exercises to do with him daily. :D |
