I prefer dark meat but tend to eat a lot of white meat to save calories where I can.

I've noticed that true foodies seem to prefer dark meat. What is your preference?

Rarely eat any meat but when I do eat foul, I mostly do eat white meat as there is just something about the dark meat flavor and texture I don't like. The only way I know how to describe it is "bloody" tasting. It has something of a still-raw taste to it even when it's not underdone. And it seems slicker somehow.

Dark meat all the way; white meat is just bland to me. For some reason it won't let me vote in the poll though.

I'm with you on the white meat having no flavor on its own!

Lol I hope you mean fowl and not foul :tongue4:

I know what you mean about a little irony taste. But the flesh is so moist and juicy and full of flavor.

And it's slicker because it has a little higher fat content.

Haha. Slight Freudian slip there when even thinking of dark meat. Yeah, you can easily tell where the slickness is from - can taste and feel the grease in the dark meat in your mouth. As a kid, I used to love the drumstick but as I got older, it became too "slick" tasting somehow. I don't mind grease in beef as much as I do fowl. Sure don't mind it in foie gras though! Wonder why it doesn't taste slick to me?

I'm not a foodie, so I like white meat! I don't eat chicken very often, but when I do, it has to be white meat...very picky w/my proteins, not adventurous @ all when it comes to meat. If I go to eat Korean BBQ (not anymore, trying not to eat red meat), I seriously eat cancerous meat. It has to be very very well done. The waitress constantly comes to my table to lower the heat/ fire & they turn on the fan & start flipping over the meat for me lolll! I flip it back & turn up the fire when they leave.:D

Funny that you mention this because you are right. Dark meat has lots of myoglobin, a large blood supply to sustain stamina in the animal while white meat does not. So that is why it tastes bloody to you because it is actually blood you are tasting which is why it is also more moist/slick.

That being said, I love dark meat. I can't handle the white meat, too dry. I was however a bit upset when I learned that I prefer the blood (dark meat).

Beef- the darker the better (med. rare)
Poultry- I'll eat either/ prefer white
