I'd go to the YTCA.org website, they have a breeder's directory and there several breeders in WA. Through that website you can access the Washington Yorkshire Terrier Club, they have a breeder referral # that you can contact.... |
NEW PUPPIES BORN!!!! Our little Poppy gave us four beautiful Valentines....actually we have 3 "Valentinos" and 1 "Valentina"....;) Mommy and puppies are doing well and will post pics in a few days on our website. http://www.yorkshireterriersofcalaryn.com HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!!:hearts-en |
Awesome, congratulations. Can't wait to see pictures. |
Thanks Dee, I'll try taking pictures later today if time permits. They are such fat little Bratwursts! |
The best choice is YTCA.org since most of show responsible breeders belong to a club. Please, just be careful when you are looking for a yorkie pup in WA area. Unfortunately, many back yard breeders around. I used to communicate with show breeders from YTCA, and they told me that most of them from Olympic Penincula, Snohomish. Also, there are a puppy mills in Snohomish, Tacoma, Sultan, Arlington, Maryswille, etc. Before you chose a breeder please do your homework what responsible breeder is. Just google "back yard breeder vs responsible breeder" Below a few tips: - a good breeder will not sell yorkie earlier that 10 weeks. Run from a breeder who sell a pup at age less that 8 weeks - you MUST see at least one parent. If a breeder doesn't show them, this is big RED FLAG (puppy mill?) - you MUST receive a guarantee. And WITHOUT frase "no money back, only replacement a puppy". Too many sad stories when BYB sell sick puppies and no one pay a vet bills, even if pup died. Just think - do you really want to replace for another defective puppy from a BYB? ;) - PLEASE READ STANDARD. When I was looking for a pup, I was told that yorkie standard is 10-12 pounds. Well, not only idiots around, how she probably thought :D . There are a few quality of yorkies, and some breeders charge way too much money for a POOR BREED pup (fluffy coat, disproportional body, oversize, etc) - NO such a thing as tea cup or whatever. Those word people love to use as marketing word. There is ONLY one standard: not exceed 7 pounds ! Period. RUN from a breeder who breed too tiny yorkies less that 3 pounds. To review a references on particular breeder, go to http://seattle.citysearch.com/review/37537077 good luck :) |
Omichka, It sounds like you got burned by a breeder. I hope you have healthy dogs now. Yes, you are correct. You must do your homework, get references and be very very careful. Carolyn Yorkshire Terriers of Calaryn |
Actually, I am very happy with my girl  . But I am just against supporting puppy mills NO matter if pup is healthy or not. I am very against BYB. We have ENOUGH yorkies on the street who look far away from stardard BEAUTIFUL yorkies. Plus, I hate when sellers lie to me. I overpaid for my girl twice seems like. |
1 Attachment(s) YTCA is the best place to start looking. The breeder mentioned on the first page of this post is Dorren Hubbard. She is listed in the officers "YTCA Officers" tab: http://ytca.org/ My wife and I have one of her babies. Molly is now a senior citizen. I also have MeToo who is from Rebecca Rmasey who is the secretary of the Mt Rainier club. A good breeder is not breeding for money and they also will not let puppies go that are younger that 12 weeks. Both of our girls are "pet quality". Dorren, Becky and other breeders that show will not sell a show quality pup and will definetely not sell a show quality pup to someone who will not show their line! We got Molly at 14 weeks and did not get MeToo until she was 3 months old. MeToo is our 5th Yorkie. |

What you posted has been posted throughout YT... Doreen is a marvelous breeder/exhibitor one of the best and a very lovely lady.... |
Agree, I didn't buy a yorkie from her, just that puppy was sold too fast. But she has a great INTERNATIONAL reputation. Personally, I communicate with one of her partner and strongly recommend her. She does breed for quality, not money. Her name is Patty and now she lives in Mount Vernon. Very responsible and honest lady:) . Kirk is a good breeder. Nancy from Tacoma is good, but she is more like factory .... PS: Molly looks familiar to me. Just wondering is it the same puppy I was planning to buy.... If she was on sale in april/may 2004 that is she...-)))))))))) |
Yorkie Size The actual Yorkshire Terrier size was anywhere from 12-16 lbs. when they were originally bred. Unfortunately, when brought to America, women demanded smaller and smaller dogs and that has brought us to this sad situation of puppy mill breeders selling tiny, unhealthy dogs. Please be extremely careful not to encourage this practice. Humans should be responsible and think about an animal's quality of life over having the tiniest-looking dog. Reputable breeders should not have yorkie moms that are less than 5 lbs. I love yorkies, but I'm sickened by this trend and hope people will consider bigger yorkies. My current yorkie is 12 lbs. and people constantly ask me where they can get a bigger yorkie that they can actually take out on hikes and not be afraid of stepping on. Just a little something to think about. |
looking for yorkie pups hi everyone, new to site, long time yorkie lover. we recently lost little yokobean 16yrs old, died quietly in her bed, bathed in a sunbeam. she was our third yorkie, all have died at age 14-16. we've been very fortunate. but, we are ready to adopt another yorkie. Too lonelywithout one. we live north of seattle, so looking for pups in western Wa. anybody out there that knows of any pups, please let us know. thanks, yokiesdad |
Give Carolyn a call Home -- she is in Gig Harbour Washington. You may need to start a new thread as this is a very old one. |

Also, Carolyn Arnold in Gig Harbor is awesome (as stated above) but she isn't breeding her traditional yorkies yet. Hers aren't quite old enough, I think. But she has some beautiful Biewers! deb |
Our Yorkie is now 4 months old - we got him from Michelle Mensonides just outside of Yakima, WA. Our little boy has been very healthy from the get-go. And an excellent personality/disposition. We highly recommend this breeder. Mensonides Kennels Quality AKC Yorkies in Washington |

1 Attachment(s) Elly and Hendrick are his parents. Michelle was very easy to work with - very informative - we've kept in touch. Harley (our Yorkie) was only about 1.5 pounds when we got him so we were a little nervous about hyperglycemia, etc but he's had no signs/symptoms of any of that and is very hardy little dog. He's nearly 2.6 pounds at 4 months and he's full of spunk. This pic is just after we got him at about 10 weeks. Lately it's been hard to snap pictures as they are all blurry - he's all go, go, go!:) |
2 Attachment(s) He's so cute! Here's my little girl at 6 mo's. She's wigglly too. Her head looks big in most pics because she is always walking towards me if I get out the camera! I guess I will have to train her to stay before I can get a good shot. I got her DS Yorkie Acres. She is in Silver Creek, WA. I love working with Sue because she genuinely loves her dogs too. Very healthy little girl. She is 3.5 lbs at 6 months, and I'm hoping she will get to 5. deb |
hey could i get a contact for your breeder? Is your little one still little |
It's against YT rules to advertise your pups prior to the age of 10 weeks of age. by the way size of parents doesn't guarantee that pups will be small or large. |
bumping this thread we'd like a girl pup soon and don't know where to get her. We found one and was super excited about getting her but she sold before we got to her, my kids were pretty bummed |
We'd like to get a Puppy somewhere around Dec/Jan I live in SW WA so the Vancouver, WA or Portland/OR area would be fantastic.. Any info would be helpful! Thanks so much! |
