| ![]() What breed would you choose to be with around children, other animals like other dogs, horses, rabbits etc. ? ![]() And to use in obedience, to rescue people (I'll be in the rescue team here in a few years I want to train my other future dog to be in that with me) and the dog has to be breed to follow orders well. I have 2 yorkies one is the most stubborn thing in the world (I can't even get her to sit by a command no matter what), the other one is with me in Obedience class but he just isn't the perfect obedience dog, cause he's like Marley in Marley and me ![]() I live in Iceland here is a list of breeds that exist in my country, what would you reccomand?? Hundaræktarfélag Íslands By the way, the breed has to be in middle size, like a border collie in size,or like a rottweiler in size, somewhere there between.

| ![]() I know golden, labs, and shepards are used for the type of things you are interested in. Most dogs are great with kids and other animals if well socialized. I would contact a rescue team and talk with them. It takes a very special dog to be a rescue dog.

| ![]() I'm not interested in labs or goldens, labs are everywhere I look where I live, a big part of the dog owners here own labs, they are good dogs and everything but not my type ![]() Not many golden's are here and hard to get golden pups, only two breeders breeding them and one is a puppymill the other never has litters and she only has white goldens, I like them golden colored ![]() I would be awesome if I could train the dog breed for IPO.

| ![]() What types are presently being used around you for rescue work? That may help with narrowing it down. What exactly is "rescue team" in your area?

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Malinois or Shepherd would be my choice. It depends on what type of rescue work you wish to employ the dog in? If it is not water work I would look at those two breeds seriously. When looking for a working dog of any breed, I always suggest for the person to attend the trials/competitions watch the dogs work with the owners/handlers/breeders. You want to purchase puppy from a long line of working dog champions.

| ![]() No The dog would not work as a rescue dog in water, only on land, for an example looking for missing people in the woods etc. ![]() I'm in love with Malinois but they are so rare here and I can't afford to buy a dog in another country and move it to iceland. The dogs that are used most here in obedience and rescue work are Dobermans, Rottweilers, German shepherds, border collies, australian shepherds, and also the Icelandic sheepdog is in everything here in iceland, but the icelandic ones just aren't my types :P I like german shepherds, but are they good around children, other animals and so ? do they tend to bark much ?? Are they loyal to their owner?

European Shepherd lines thankfully are not usually subject to the awful hip dysplasia that got bred into the North Amercian lines. One thing on Shepherds really research out your local breeders for their pre breeding testing protocols. Also it is my understanding that European lines are somewhat larger than the N.A. lines. So weight might be an issue. Not too sure how strong you are, but I'd not want to be lifting a 80-90lb large male in and out of buildings n such. How-ever females are almost always smaller.

| ![]() Good evening! ![]() How about the Border Collie - do you like those? Over here they are used extensively for herding, agility, rescue etc. etc. - they are extremely biddable and easy to train....I saw they were on 'the list', so just a thought! ![]() |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Their a little smaller, but shelties (shetland sheepdogs are very smart and easily trained. We had them growing up and they were great with kids.

| ![]() I would consider the Austrailian Shepard, Border Collie or Blue Heeler. I have seen so so so many that excel in thier work and are absolutely amazingly smart dogs. My experience with these dogs comes from showing horses. Everyone (except me ![]()
