I, too, would like to know the answer. I am miserably hot all of the time!! |
I am going to try them for a month to see if i can tell a difference. Can't make things worse than they already are. |

I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 38 about 5 years ago. About a year ago I started having having hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia, so my doctor suggested estradiol. I took that for about 4 months, and it did help. Then, I went to my family doctor (a male) and when I told him I was taking it, I could tell by his reaction he disapproved. This is an OBGYN vs. Family Doctor. So, we talked some about it. He told me I could take it on and off as needed and it would be ok. Hmmm, not too sure about this, but I quit taking it. (At the time I thought I might be having a reaction to it) That was 4 months ago and I got along great! Now, all of a sudden the hot flashes are coming back with a vengence! I thought I would try to get through it, but we are having 105 degree temperatures with no relief in sight.:eek: So, I am considering going back on it. My fam. doctor's wife is a breast cancer survivor so that may part of why he is against HRT. My biggest fear from it however, is weight gain. |

Five years ago (age-47) my gyn wanted to put me on hormones and gave me a mess of samples, they sat on the vanity for a few weeks (dh even asked, was I going to take them- with pleading in his eyes...)but the worst of symptoms settled down- If I had taken the meds I would have thought they had cured me! I then realized my complaints were very much like a cycle. I started vitamin D(mood), and B12 (brain fuzzies), used black cohosh(flashes)and started yoga classes(patience- 3 teenagers). Got back to my original weight and am careful to stay there. I think I'm better for it and enjoying the hormonal freedom! |
My mother NEVER went through "the change" at 65 she finally just had the plumbing taken out. I on the other hand glided through it,because I was taking birth control pills. NO hotflashes,flooding,moodswings,etc.... THEN the GYN says stop taking pills so we can check your hormones,,I didn't HAVE any. I thought WOW that was easy, then a week later I started having freez flashes and hot flashes around the clock every 15min. I did this for a week and called the Dr,told them they better give me my drugs back or I was going to grow fangs. One would think that would be the end of it,,but NOOOOOOO. I had a period that lasted, nonstop, nomatter what drugs I was on from Jan 2010 to Dec 2010. To say that it and I were unpleasant is an understatement. You should try going out of town for a week on the back of a motorcycle, living out of a Tbag and you are the ONLY girl. Anyway ended up with an ablazion "Merry Chistmas" still take hormones, pretty lil pink pills that they are and so far being on the OTHER side of menopause is ok. No hot or cold flashes or other stuff. I will begin weaning myself off the hormones, lower dose or whatever after my next apointment. The past year was so hard on me emotionally and physically that I am just going to ride this wave a little longer. |
