| Is it a ghost? OK y'all, my turn to ask if you think my house is haunted. We moved in to our new (to us) house about three weeks ago and almost every night since then Adie or Skeeter (Sometimes both) wake me up around 3AM. They are very quietly growling and staring out of the bedroom door toward the kitchen. If someone were in the kitchen they wouldn't be able to hear them because they are growling so quietly. It is like they are growling to themselves most of the time. I've listened for any kind of noise that may be bugging them but nothing so far. They keep it up for a really long time. Skeeter did it till 6AM one morning. Three hours! Of course if they bark they get the rest of the brood stirred up too then all of them are growling. Sigh. I'm imagining that it is a train or something off in the distance that I can't hear. Any thoughts? I know these guys have better hearing that Cassie and Ivan do and it is a new environment for them but geez, after the stuff I have been going through lately I need some sleep! I'm open to suggestions. They quiet down when I tell them to but often start up again after I fall back to sleep. I tried crating Skeeter but he went wild - something he never does in his crate. |

| princess used to do the same thing a couple months ago! it was around 3 am too.. my mom was all "no if it was a ghost they'd only come out at midnight" but from the poster above.. guess not! princess would stare at this one corner of the wall and be freaked out to go near it... never done this before.. she always sleeps.. sounds or not.. she sleeps all night.. she was so scared and didnt wanna go near it.. so i put her near the wall and she kept jumping back onto my lap.. rest of the night she just stared at that wall and then eventually fell asleep |

| Can you try shutting the bedroom door? It might muffle the sound enough so that they can't hear it. Or perhaps sleep with a radio on to help cover up whatever noise it is.

| It could be something in the new house. Do you have a different kind of refrigerator that goes through a defrost cycle or something at night? Water softener? Try to think of things that they might hear but you might not. They will get used to it. Mine bark at *everything* except when people rev their engines because my neighbor is constantly revving his engine and they are used to it. Weird what they get used to... We live in a townhouse and literally share a driveway with 3 other houses and they know what all the other 6 cars sound like but bark at a new/different sounding car. They are smart

| Maybe you have mice? According to the pest inspection there are no mice - just spiders LOL. YES! new refrigerator that dispenses water. I bet that's it and it is a coincidence that it is the same time in the morning? Hmmm. |

| Well I suppose it could even be a skunk or opossum since this happen to us for a few nights till we found out what they were growling about. We however do have the last owner (we think it may be him anyway) visiting quite often who died two weeks after we bought the house from him. He loved this house and didn't even want to leave, but his daughter said he was just too old to manage such a large house. Anyway the dogs always know when he is around and it un-nerves me. Just last night it was so bad that I yelled at him to get out and go to the light. The heavyness went away and the dogs relaxed. Not to hijack the thread, but this is how they respond to whatever they see. There's not a thing on the ceiling, no lights.........nothing!! My husband wasn't even home at that time. These were taken the night of the 4th. I posted some of the pictures already, but this is Razael looking at ?????

| It could even be the ice maker - you would never hear it during the day with the TV or radio on but at night you can totally hear when it fills the water and dumps the ice.

I KNOW THAT LOOK! Oh wow, I have seen all 4 of my dogs looking like that at the same time at the same spot at our other house. I always believed that a collie we rescued was visiting. I haven't seen them doing that here though. | |

| My 2 go nuts if there's a bird, squirrel or any animal prowling around outside - not to mention whatever it is that lives between our floors. Not mice - too big. Both the dogs and the cats will stare at things that aren't there. I hope you figure out what it is.

| OK, I think it IS a ghost My husband likes to go down to his man cave in the morning and listen to the radio while he wakes up with his coffee. Now we are moving things that belonged to the previous owner to one side of the basement so there was a lamp on the floor. Dave thought he saw something move beside the lamp cord so he started watching it. The cord MOVED to the right and a little while later it moved to the left. He walked over to it and was standing right over it and it moved again. How freaky is that? He said it wasn't scarey and is determined to find out what is making it move but I think I know already. |
