Sarah, I know it is so frustrating to work hard in high school and get no recognition for it. I was in the top 10 of my class and only got a piddly $50 scholarship. We need to rethink our priorities in this country. But don't let that frustrate you now that you are in college. Your future is wide open and good grades in college will make a difference in what job offers you get. It'll be worth it. Princess Sara, I've been curious about what happened to everyone in high school too. My mom saw the parents of a guy I had a HUGE crush on. His dad said he's bald and fat now! I couldn't believe his dad said that. I still can't imagine it. I'd like to see how some of the others turned out. But I don't plan on darkening the door of any class reunions anytime soon, lol! |
oh man. I am gonna sound like a total idiot, but... My friend Amy and I were ultra cool. We were too cool to hang out with the popular kids. I totally sabotaged my reputation when I dated a junior my senior year. but i was happy  |
Too funny Kristy! My daughter did the exact same thing and she's still dating the little turd! I told her she does not want to start college with a BF still in high school. But she doesn't listen to me. Can ya tell I don't like him??? So how do I convince her to lose the dead weight and move on...I know, I better just keep my mouth shut, lol!!! |
Funny thread, iheartyorkies. I dunno about geeks ruling the world, most of us geeks would rather just never show our face... ;) I'd never think we'd have such a rebellious crowd, especially you, Junebug! Heh heh... |

Wow,,,,,, I just realized that it's been 19 years since I graduated. OMG!!! Well back in the day,,, I have to say I was deeply into the new wave thing,,, then turned a little gothic dressing like Mortisha from the Adams Family,,, and ended up turning into a disco queen who wore her hair a little bigger then I care to admit. LOL Living in Montebello and attending Montebello it was one big party and if we were not doing our party thing we where out cruising Whittier blvd. I don't know how I graduated,,,,, it's all a blur,,, lol but I did it!!! "Class of 86" |
I thought that I was something special when I was a junior though. I was dating a college guy. LOL I thought that I was just sooooo cool for that. |
See, I knew you guys needed to help me with the categories. I forgot the mean girls! Mindy, that's so funny what your vice principal said!! My best friend was a bi*ch to a girl who tried to steal her boyfriend. I was really self-absorbed. A lot of people in my HS just didn't exist to me. My sister is forever saying 'Do you remember so and so??? And I say 'No'. And she's like, 'You're kidding! He/She was in your class!' I kinda regret that. I'm sure some of them woulda made awesome friends. vms1177, I agree. High school is such a weird place. We were so young and 99% of us were so insecure. Good for you that you're going for your masters. Latuya, we'd love to see some pix of that Pat Bennetar wannabe hair, lol!!! Kelly, me too! My boyfriends were always a couple years older. I got to 'car date' way before my friends. I went to Prom all 4 years! My how things change. My daughter wasn't allowed to go to dances till she was a Sophomore. |
I went to 4 different highschools (my dad worked in the oil industry and was always being transferred) so I never really had time to fit in or become part of a group. I guess I was mostly a Band Geek since that was the one group I was in all 4 years. Music was my thing so I stuck with it because I wanted to be a music major in college.. even though that didn't happen I'm glad I was in band because at least I made a few friends where it would have been really hard to make friends being the new kid every year of highschool. I was also a major Braniac.. I spent more time doing homework and getting ready for college than I ever did socializing. I was pretty much the same throughout college too. Iheartyorkies - My marching bands were also way more succesful than the football teams.. my SR. year the football team won one single solitary game but we took tops in all of our competitions and people came to the games to see the band, not the football team! :p Tell your daughter that trumpet players rule! (I played trumpet & euphonium in HS) :D |
I guess I should explain... I was a tomboy who played softball and basketball at an all-girls Catholic school in Chicago. When I transferred to public school my sophomore year, I tried out for the basketball team. I was bumped up to starting point guard on the varsity squad and all the sophomore girls started to hate me (because I made varsity). I made a big mistake and quit basketball. I never bothered trying out for softball. Soph year I got sick w/ mono and didn't go to school for three months. I still passed and did my work from home. I was down to a size two and lost a lot of my muscle from being sick. Then, I started getting dressed up for school everyday with my best friend Amy and we decided that we were waaaaaaaaaay too mature for the popular crowd. We decided to just put ourselves above them. Don't get me wrong, I was still very friendly to everyone while I was in school. I just kept them wondering about my life outside of the classroom. Whenever we had our famous parties we would only invite guys from the all-boys Catholic school and a couple girls we were friends with in grade school. |

I was a total princess and very popular. But I also loved school and always got really great grades. I was also a comedian -- always cracking jokes and the center of attention. I really loved high school ... it was so much fun and it wasn't that long ago. :D |
This is a cute thread. I loved high school, I had a great time. It was not a weird or awkward time for me at all. I guess I would have been categorized in the Brain/Princess/Popular groups. |

You know what though... I kind of feel like I missed out a bit. I was in such a rush to grow up that I missed out on the whole highschool experience. I don't have any real close friends that I still talk to from highschool like my sisters do... I kind of regret not being there more and being a part of what was going on... That being said, I AM SO GLAD IT'S OVER. I would never want to go back. And although I am SUPER proud of who I am now, I don't know if I will go to my 10 year renunion in 4 years... |
I always end up having peers tell me that they didn't like me at first. I seem to eminate "BITCH" but later on we just laugh about it. I'm the friendly one and I never associated myself with the spoiled brats. I would constantly be caught in the middle of a squabble between the brats and the nerds and geeks. I hated it when my friends were looked down upon on because their social status isn't up to par with the brats. I was good in school but still had days were I didn't feel like going and ditched school. Yeah, those were the days. |
i was in the band in high school, i think. it's been SOOOOO long ago!LOL seriously, tho', i was in band. the "popular" crowd all wanted to be my friend, mostly the girls, because of my older brother, they all thought he was hot. NOT!! he was just my brother! |
band geek that partied a lot |

I was pretty popular in HS. I was and am the type of person that can get along with ANYONE. I didn't get in a lot of trouble except I did get caught skipping school the second half of my senior year and got licks but hey, it was all fun! :D |
Believe it or not i got the class standout they called "Beat All Around" and I think it was because I hung out with everyone and I got along with all the cliques. I was a cheerleader but I was nice to everyone even the geeks and the nerds and I tried to include everyone and make everyone feel good about themselves. |
Latuya, honey that is definately some of the biggest big hair I have ever seen, lol!! I bet everyone wished they could get their hair that big. I never could get my hair big unless I had a perm and that fried it. I was a big hair wannabe. Mari, I kinda did the same thing as you. I went to prom all four years, part of the time I ran with kids two years older and by the time I was a junior, I'd already done all the kool stuff. My boyfrend had already graduated and I had to reconnect with all my friends. That was kinda tough cause they were like, "Oh so now you have time for us". My senior year I attended HS 1/2 day, then my 4 best friends and I left and took a couple classes at the community college each semester. Ohhhh, we thought we were the stuff!! Kimberley (txshopper), by 'licks' I assume you mean with a paddle...they did that at my school too. At least I think they did in HS. I know they did in middle school and elementary. I only got paddled once in school. It was in the 4th grade. This gouchy old burnt out teacher thought I making fun of another girl. It wasn't. I was falsely accused *sniff*. I hated that teacher after that. But my status with the other kids went up a notch. How pathetic. That seems so strange to me now. No school would dare do that now. My friends and I got caught skipping school our junior year and were called to the office. Since we were all absent the same day they figured we skipped. They were right. We had to go to the principal and tell him where we were. I looked that poor man straight in the eye and said "I was at the dentist, you wanna call him??" He backed off. I kinda feel bad about that. He was just doing his job. And he believed me too. The others got their grades for that day dropped but I didn't. Kim, you sound like my sister. She was kind to everyone and was elected homecoming queen. I was way too self-absorbed and I regret that. |
