| Moving Ok... I am packing to move into a house we just bought. Does anyone have anysuggestions on how to pack your computer and all the stuff hooked to it to make it safe and easy to unload and rehook up when we get there? I feel like I am going to have a nervous breakdown. My parents moved a lot when I was really small and so they are experts and my mother has always packed me but since she has just had double knee replacements and my dad just had his 4th back surgery and my husband can't do much since he had to have the top half of his leg replaced w/ titanium due to his cancer .... I have no one to help. I sometimes feel like I just can't do it. W/ four kids the massive volumes of STUFF we have is soooo overwhelming! Suggestions anyone? |

| Best suggestion I can make is get rid of everything you can before you move. Have a garage sale or take whatever you can do without to the local thrift store. You will love not having to find a place for all of the things you CAN live without. As for the computer, go to your local hardware store and buy colored electrical tape. You can buy one package with many colors in it. As you disconnect each cable on your computer, cut one color tape and put it on the cable and another small piece of the matching color right next to the socket it goes in on the back of the computer. Do that with a different color for each cable. If you run out of colors, use two different colors on one cable. Then when you put it back together, it will be easy to match them up. Also, I always carry my computer in my personal vehicle to protect it rather than in a moving van. Sonya

Only thing I'd add, meglaulanmar, is to enlist some help. That's a lot of work for just one person. There's gotta be a relative or friend you can call in a favor on? A co-worker? A YorkieTalker?

| Bless your heart. We just moved in June. We had lived in that house for 30 years and I swore that I would never move again never say never. I was just getting ready to have double knee replacement myself so wasn't much help. Know what I did? Gave everything away...right down to the dishes and silverware!!!!! Only moved clothes and pictures and of course all of dh's garage stuff. Had the surgery while living in a trailer waiting for the house to be built and ordered all new stuff to be delivered and put together. Best move ever. But we are in the process right now of moving my daughter and her 2 daughters out and I can certainly sympathize with you. I certainly hope you have a friend who can help you out. Good luck, sweetie.

| I'm not the one to ask for advice...but I can sympathize! I cannot imagine having to pack for your whole family! It was crazy for me when I just had to pack me and my hubby. I did learn though that it is best to pack in an organized manner, that way it isn't so hectic when you get all your stuff to your new house! Good luck

| I know times are hard for everyone right now (economy wise), but can you get the movers to do some packing & moving for you? Maybe you & possibly some friends or family can help pack the personal stuff and the movers can pack all the other stuff and then move it for you. Good Luck in your move. Are you going far from Alexandria?

| The one tip I have on moving!!!! Pack 1 suitcase, box, tote, whatever. With sheets you will need when there(how many beds)towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and brushes, meds, maybe a little first aid kit!maybe paper plates, glasses and plastic silverware Pack clothes for 2-3 days- for each person- or 1 for you and hubby- 1 for kids!! Keep these where you know where they are- do not let them get mixed up in all the other stuff! It is not fun when you get there to have to look threw 10 boxes, totes, for all this different stuff! You will be looking for enough other stuff! I read this on one of my moves- the sheets, and basics are a life saver not to search!! And any prescriptions- keep handy, or packed with this stuff- you need your prescriptions! BF cleared frig out last move- took inslin to Mo- I was still in Iowa- had to go buy more!!! good luck moving is a lot of work!!!
