Sewing/ Baby Quilt-making advice please

I guess any scissors would have a harder time cutting right at the tip like you need for rag quilts.

My grandson will be three in July and here is a quilt I made for him before he was born...my 2nd grandson is due any day and I have not even started on his quilt! But I work full time now and have not taken the time. I think I know what kind of quilt I want to make, now I just need to make it happen! Judy, you quilt is going to be very pretty! I bought a rag pieced messenger bag at the mall a while back and love that bag! Here is a pic of Nathan's quilt I made three years ago.

Yeah they are appliqued! It was really easy too! I used that stuff you iron on to fuse them on both sides and then you just iron them on and do an applique stitch around them. I had a professional do the quilting tho...they did that swirly crazy stitch all over it...it was really nice. I had started a little girl quilt when we found out it was a boy...maybe someday!

That's one of the reasons I'm so excited my friend is having a girl!

You did a good job on Nathan's quilt. You make it sound easy, but it had to be more difficult than that.

Now you just need to find the inspiration for your other grandson. I'm sure it will be spectacular.

I am thinking of doing appliqued doggies on one for Colby (that is what they are naming him)...just need to get really inspired and get started on it! He will be here really soon...she is dialated to 3 and over 50% effaced!

Can't wait to see your quilt when you are finished!!! Sewing projects can be so much fun!

A doggy quilt would be so much fun! Great idea!

Here are a couple of photos of the finished baby quilt. I made a few mistakes and learned quite a bit, but I think it looks nice.

I have a couple of the striped squares going the wrong direction, but I think it works. A couple of the seams don't line up exactly, and next time I will use a layer of flannel in the middle instead of batting.

I am having a lot of fun with this. I will start my next project today and can't wait.

Judy that is so pretty! You did a great job!!! I want to make one of those now... You are motivating me to sew! I think I will be going to a 4 day work week - 10 hours a day...that will give me more time sew...I can dedicate a whole day. Nothing I despise more than starting a project and not having time to finish it...my artistic juices just seem to evaporate when I do that! Keep up the good work and can't wait to see your next project...give us a hint???

Oh my goodness....that is truly GORGEOUS!!!!!! What beautiful fabrics you chose and I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE that flannel!! You have to be an incredibly thoughtful person to make such a special gift! I mean it, this is a very pretty quilt with such heart put into it. She will love it.

Thanks! I don't usually have a lot of time either, so I know what you mean. I hope you can find more time to sew.

I'm not sure exactly what I plan to make right now, but I think I'm going to try a more traditional quilt since I've never done that.

Thank you! I was a little worried about the colors not being the traditional baby colors, but I just went with what I liked. I hope she likes it. Thanks again.

Those colors are beautiful! I can tell ya, my daughter is now 4 and a half and I remember shopping for her and all I could ever find were the traditional colors that you are referring to. I would have absolutely loved the patterns and brighter pinks that you have in this quilt!

I too love the UN-traditional colors in a baby quilt. I think the brighter it is the more the child will be intrigued by the quilt! I love to see a baby look at something that is bright and vivid...their face just lights up! Nathan is still that way but lately his favorite color that seems to draw him is PINK! His daddy says it is a phase! We were looking at Crocs the other day and he wanted the PINK ones!
