What is the avg price of having a room painted? Just one room. It is a decent sized room, but not huge. No high ceilings - I think they are the standard 8 ft? 9 ft? There is a double window, 5 doors, and a huge built in office unit. So there really isn't THAT much wall to actually paint. Mike is just working a lot and when he is home we have so much other stuff to do he doesn't have time to paint it. I can't do it myself because there are places I can't reach just standing on a step ladder and I am terrified of climbing on a real ladder. I'm just wondering because I had a guy come out and look and I think the price he quoted me is a little out there for what I want done. I just want the wall painted one color, the trim and door painted another color. One room. That's all. |
I wish I knew... I want my WHOLE townhouse repainted... every room! haha I know I have to do some myself but I was thinking about having a guy come paint the hallway going up the stairs to the bedroom since it needs one of those ladders that go on stairs. I too am too terrified to stand on a ladder.. the rest of the house I can do standing on a chair. If you find out, let me know :) |
The guy that came out today quoted me nearly $1000 for just this ONE room so I know that has to be crazy! Before I do that I'll buy the paint and bribe a friend or two with beer. I just wanted it to look really nice because its the first room you see when you walk in the house. |
I paid $800.00 to have an average size room painted. No trim or ceiling work. This did include the primer coat along with the top coat. It too was the first room to be seen and I am terrible at painting. My painter did an excellant job and I was so happy when he finished....It was worth the extra dollars. |
Paint the room yourself, up as far as you can comfortably reach, then let your husband paint the top part. I'm sure he can find a spare couple of hours.;) |
I painted my interior myself, I found it to be fun and wasn't on a big ladder. You can do it save the $$ its so rewarding to sit back and say wow look what I did. Do you have friends that paint? They may do it for a better price? |
After he quoted me that price I started thinking (because there is NO WAY I can afford that right now). I think I may be able to round up a couple of Mike's friends and throw a "painting party". They'll do anything for beer and pizza (they can have the beer AFTER everything is painted lol) I can reach most of it, its mainly the crown molding and the space above the office unit that I can't get to. |

Holy cr@p. Im gonna start my own painting business. If I painted just 4 rooms a month, I won't have to go back to work. I've been in the wrong business all these years!!!! Just kidding. I think your hubby and friends will prob. do it for you. Good luck. |
I think it's not so much the painting of the wall that they're charging for, but for taping it all off and removing switchplates, light covers, etc. We paid a little over $26k for almost all the interior of the house (minus one room and the detached guest suite), but they also made some wallpaper for a couple of rooms and did a lot of special effects; they had a LOT of switchplates, light rings and covers to remove (and paint also), draperies and blinds they had to protect and they had to cover the entire flooring and carpeting with plastic, not to mention all the furniture, so I think the painting is the easy part for them! I started to try painting the guest suite ceiling myself.....bad idea (at least in MY case)....I'd rather pay someone to do it; what was supposed to look like clouds on the celiing came out looking more like a smallpox outbreak:( . |

Up here, we hire ppl by the hour and pay then $10, which is a good rate.. and they will do anything:) |

The rooms are big, the ceilings 12-15 ft (and they did special effects on almost all the ceilings and faux painted everything else), so yes, it was expensive, but what they did was pretty spectacular. We were very pleased with most of it (except for the powder room which turned out not quite what we wanted, but by that time, I just wanted my house BACK without having 3 guys in there all day long. There's no way we could have painted it ourselves, nor would I have wanted to (see the smallpox comment earlier; it's not a joke:cool: ). |

Those prices you guys got quoted are scary to me. Contemplating having someone do somehere. I will ask my neighbor that just had their house done. We normally do it ourselves but I dont' want to anymore. I just installed cherry hardwood floors and dont' want them to get messed up. You can get those paint sticks that extend very far. They do work well in reaching high places and not getting on a ladder. |

I'll see if I have any that show the ceiling (you're talking about the smallpox ceiling right?); I think I purposely never got that into any photos b/c it was so embarrassing and it was like that for a couple of years:rolleyes: . Not my finest achievement, but I wanted to save some money (and it was intended to be a guest suite, but I had 2 very messy and noisy cockatoos who occupied that room as their "aviary" basically), and I really didn't want to have to deal with moving them somewhere else while professionals were painting in the room, b/c the birds would be screaming (or possibly biting them:eek: ), so I read all the articles I could find on how to paint the ceiling like a sky with clouds and they all said to start the clouds with an outline of a purple-y or dark color (well, somehow against the blue, my paint turned out to be sort of a pinky-lavender), so when my dh (let's blame him, LOL) did the outline of the clouds, which looked kind of like pink amoebas, I said "that's not the right color; we need to start over".....and that's sort of how it just stayed for the next couple of years:mad: . Oh well...it's fixed now, but there's still no clouds up there. |

When they did our walls, they put plastic sheeting on EVERYTHING and TAPED it down. They didnt' get paint on too much (other than some of the biggest Silhouette shades of course, which paint can't be cleaned off of) and we had white carpeting thru a lot of the house...oh, they did get a little on a couple of the edges (we don't have baseboards either)of the carpet in a couple of rooms, but nothing noticeable. Just make sure it's taped really well. And get a few different quotes from different people. If you have friends/neighbors whose homes you like that had work done, get referrals; it really helps to know WHO is working in your home and what to expect. |
Heck, Ill come do it for you for HALF that price and still be happy! haha |
