Digital camera If you were going to buy a digital camera and spend up to 300 on it, which would you buy? Im digital camera challenged on knowing which is best. |
i have a canon powershot sd400. its pretty good and when i bought it it was around $250 i believe. |
I am so not any good at finding the right camera   ..but I will watch this thread to see If I can learn anything. pooh's mum |
I agree. Get a Canon Powershot, whichever one is around your price range. |
I got the canon powershot A560 and I love it, its a basic shoot and point camera. Amazon has it the cheapest for 129.99 no shipping or tax. |
Canon. I have an S3IS, which is the big point & shoot (not an SLR, not a compact) I would also recommend the smaller Canons. |
i wet digital camera shopping earlier this year and ended up with the canon powershot SD1000... I had bought a kodak first and ended up returning it for the powershot! ILOOOVE IT! Goodluck in your search! |
This is the one I got, I am very happy, specially I remove the red eye instantly:aimeeyork Check the link http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...ABA&catLevel=2 |
I just purchased a Kodak Z712-IS a few weeks ago. It's easy to use, good on batteries and takes great pictures in low light conditions. |
Last weekend we bought a Sony Cyber-shot DSH-HC. Love it! (so far) It was $249.00 at Wal-Mart. |
I agree on Canon Powershot:thumbup: |
My Suggestions For a newbie with digital cameras, my first tip is to forget about digital zoom completely. It does nothing but make your pics blurry...turn that feature off if your camera allows. Concentrate on MP-megapixels-and optical zoom. I recently purchased another digital camera and these were my top picks after quite a bit of research. Panasonics have a great lens by Leica and it's hard to find many cameras with 10X opitcal zoom. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...activeda654-20 Another with superb zoom is the Nikon Coolpix which is a little more but has 10X zoom also. One last tip is to be aware of "digital delay" which means there is lag-time between pushing the button to take the picture and actually getting the shot. Just take loads of shots and delete the ones you don't like. Good luck with your new camera. Have fun with it. |
I personally have a Canon Powershot and it's OK but we just bought my son a Nikon Cool Pix and I love that camera...when this Canon bites the dust that's the next small, digital camera I get. It retails for about $249 or so but lately all the camera stores around us and I think even Best Buy and Walmart had it on sale for $199 and we got it in the limited edition color red but you can get it in black, too.:D You should get some great ideas from this thread that's for sure. |
PC World's Picks PC Magazine has this article with its top 5 digital cameras for beginners http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,2209659,00.asp |
THanks! Im still lookin for a camera. It seems that the Cannon has the quickest time as far as pushing the button and taking the pic. |
someone is selling a nice camera on the garage sale forum, if you want to check it out :) hope you find the right one! |
http://www.amazon.com/Casio-Exilim-D...dp/B000VGTQAI/ A friend of mine just bought this camera....it was a bundled package at Wal-Mart for about $150.......so far, she likes it! |

I was talking to a salesguy in Best Buy today and he recommended Canon, especially the model with HD technology. I've also been looking at cameras...decisions...decisions |
I just got the Olympus Stylus SW 790 for Christmas and I love it!! It's waterproof (up to 10 ft) and shockproof (from up to 5 ft).. I do have a less than a year old kodak v705 for sale in the garage sale forum you should check out though ;) |
We just got a new one at work...it's Canon, but I can't remember what model. It's really good & I think was around 300 or so. |
Interesting. I am in bad need of an easy to use digital camera...that still takes a great picture. This will be my first, so nothing too fancy or difficult to use. Good information here so far... |
I loooooooove my Sony Cybershot. It's really user friendly for even the most technologically challenged person, but still takes really nice pictures. It has been my favorite camera so far! |
I have the Sony Cybershot also. But I am interested in the one that said they can snap the shots rapidly without the lag. By the time the picture is taken, the dogs have walked out of the frame. I am going to watch and see which camera is most recommended for quick shots. |
good thread! I need to learn more also. |

I got it free from the bank when I opened an IRA. I wonder if my camera does that also and I just do not know. |
Sometimes It's Not the Camera I have been reading about the high speed memory cards but haven't tried one yet. They are supposed to transfer data faster so there's not so much of a digital delay. I am very frustrated by that. I have also read that it's important to format the memory card inside the camera after transferring the pictures to the computer. It seems it's a bit like defragmenting the computer's hard drive. :aimeeyork |
