X-pen size
 
What size x-pens is everyone bringing to link together at the park? I want to purchase one before we go so that we have enough but I wanted to know what height I should purchase.

I know 24" is high enough so that our babies don't get out but what about other dogs at the dog park wanting to get in.:eek:

Oh, I will FOR SURE be on guard for the other dogs in the area. I think there will be enough people around our pups to keep them safe. I think the pens are more for the little escape artists that might want to chase squirrels or something :p

Yes, my babies all love squirrels...If you visit one of my dogster pages you will a video of my babies chasing a squirrel. Here's the link:

AWESOME squirrel chasing video! :D

I think you would be fine with the 24" pen. I bet that's what most other people have. Is anyone else planning on bringing a pen for the friday get together?

Thanks!! My babies love to chase squirrels...I honestly don't think they would know what to do with it if they ever caught one. Actually one time Miko did catch up with one, they both went rolling, the squirrel got up and ran up the tree, Miko had this look on his face like WTH? It was hillarious, I wish I had gotten that on tape.

Anyway, it had been requested at the beggining of this thread for everyone to bring their x-pens so that we could link them together at the dog park to form an area for our babies. I don't think the park we are going to has a small dog area. :eek:

I'm bringing mine.. I do have two... so I may bring both... I don't remember the height.. I believe it's a 24

Assuming everyone remembers to bring them who said they would, so far we have 9 people bringing x-pens. We'll want a big space for all the babies though (so far we have 50 dogs registered), so I say the more, the merrier. If we end up with more x-pens than we need, we just won't set them up :thumbup:. Better to have more than enough than not enough! Thank you in advance to all of you who are driving and have volunteered to bring your x-pens :thumbup::thumbup:.

I was going to send out e-mails about this later, but while we're on the subject, remember to bring the clips that come with your pens so that we can clip all the pens together, and put your name or some other identifying item on your pens so we get everyone back the pen they came with!!

Correct! The park we're going to is not a dog park, although the park is "dog-friendly". They've even provided poo bags for those little accidents. We will want to hook the x-pens together, as you said, so that the babies can play freely while we chat and don't have to worry about them running off. This is what we do for our monthly SoCal meet-ups, and it really works great so that the babies don't feel territorial and can just PLAY!!!!

OMG, won't it be fun to have that many furkids all in one place!!!!!!!!

should we bring the poles that go into the ground also? or are they not necessary?

Hmmmm...I'm not familiar with any poles. The ones our SoCal people use are metal, and we just stand them up and clip them together (I think you get 2 clips per x-pen when you buy them from the store). Is yours maybe soft-sided so it came with poles? Maybe bring them if they're not too cumbersome, and if we don't need them, we just won't use them? I can't say since I'm not familiar with them :confused::confused::confused:. What does everyone else think?

I have a metal one.. but it came with some kind of poles.. they're still in the box, though.. lol... I guess they're just if someone wants to keep the pen out for a long time:confused: that'd be my guess.. so the wind doesn't collapse it

I signed up to bring 2 xpens....... and can bring more if needed. I think it will be great to have them all hooked together....... but something to think about...... at a meet up that I attended, there were some "unaltered" yorkies (not spayed or neutered) that we may have to consider. We had a separate pen area for the "BOYS")
Shelby & Seymour have both had surgery which isn't a problem for us..... but it may be for others!! ;)

Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

...... if we are going to do a "gift" game or exchange, can I suggest that an amount to spend is decided? (that way there isn't $5 gifts for some and $50 for others)

Just curious, what is the reason behind having a separate area for unaltered boys?

in case there are un-altered girls!!.... :D We had a little boy that was getting "frisky" with a few of the younger (not old enough to be spayed yet) girls.

Kayah isn't spayed.. but her last heat was in January.. so it won't be a problem.
Evie will be getting spayed.. I'm just a bit nervous right now

....... we didn't have any "unplanned pregnancies"....... but I really think that is something we need to consider..... unless you all think that I am "thinking too much".:p

I woulldn't want them to be in a seperate area either.
At the YF last year there was this one male that just wouldn't leave the females alone. Kayah was in heat.. so she stayed in my arms the whole time.

I'd say as long as someone isn't being "annoying" they should stay with all the dogs

The X-pen I had was 36in (hopefully getting it back...). Lacy can actually scale it so 24in wouldn't work so well I don't think. I'd buy the 36in if I were you
