First Yorkie... Hello everyone! My name is Corinna, I live in Hells Kitchen NYC, and I am in the process of adopting my first Yorkie (I'll be picking her up next Thursday)!! I am so excited! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good and reasonably priced veterinarian in the area (and beyond, as I am willing to travel)?? Thanks a bunch! :aimeeyork |
Hi and welcome Corinna to Yorkie Talk. Congrats on your new adoption of a fur baby. I am not familiar with the area so cannot offer any assistance with vets, just make sure you feel comfy with your new vet and they are specialized in tiny breeds, this is a must and cannot be stressed enough. Many Yorkie's have been placed in danger with bad advise or meds given to these tiny one's just because the vet was not specialized with such breeds. Wish you the best and look forward to hearing back from you. :D |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk! Congratulations on your upcoming addition! I know we would ALL love to see pictures! :) |
Thanks... Thanks for the great welcome and advice! I'll have pictures up soon! :) |
Hello: And welcome. This may sound like a dumb question, seeing how I was born and raised in New York, but , where in Manhattan is Hells Kitchen? Is that by Delancy Street?? |
Is there really a place called Hells Kitchen?!? I thought maybe she was joking but it didn't sound like it. Sometimes I'm in Hells Kitchen but that's only cause I burn stuff :D |
:) - There really is a place called Hells Kitchen in New York, but I keep forgetting where it is.. basically its on the west side of manhattan. Not so much of a hells kitchen anymore but the name stuck from many, many years ago.. |
Hells Kitchen Yes yes...there really is a place in Manhattan lovingly referred to as Hell's Kitchen. Generally the area on the west side of the island between 42ndish and 59thish and 8th Avenue to the Hudson River. Termed because awhile back when the area was run over with Irish gangs, etc. police were summoned in to break up some sort of fight or whatever, and one officer said he wouldnt dare go in that area because it was "hot as hell", and another officer replied saying "no, its as hot as hell's kitchen". Thus its name. People also know it as Clinton, but you'll probably get a "you're not from here" look if you say that. And they may "escort" you past 8th Avenue if you dare call it Midtown West. Sorry....nothing to do with Yorkies...except that my little one will be living there :) ...happily and safely as the area has become rather gentrified and sought after in the past few years!! |
Well that is interesting! Thanks for filling me in:) and welcome! Make sure you post a picture after you pick up your little baby next week! We'd love to see her! |

I work in the UWS and I have heard good things about Ansonia Vets on 74th St. I commute in from Jersey City, so Mason's wonderful vet is in NJ but I would recommend just talking to people who are walking their pets and getting personal recommendations!! That's what I did before I got Mason. Just grabbing people in the street :) There are plenty around here, as you know :D Good luck and enjoy your puppy!! Mason and I go to a dog run at Riverside park and also the one in Union Square. Maybe we can meet up some day and play?! |
Thanks for the suggestions! I hope we do meet up sometime. The new Riverside run is great. Hopefully it will be a great spring and summer! Thanks again! |
Just in case you need another suggestion, we go to Bide-a-Wee, 38th and First. They are very reasonably priced and have great doctors there. |
Corinna, Good luck with your new baby. Yorkies are wonderful little dogs. |
