New Yorkie mom with many questions Hi! I am the brand new mom of a 15 week old yorkie named Chanel. We have a 7 year old Boston Terrier and have had several othe dogs throughout our lives but never before a Yorkie! She is quite adorable and very spunky. Our Boston Terrier is really mellow and little Chanel just won't give her a break. She is constantly jumping on her, trying to steal her toys, biting her legs and just generally driving her crazy. Chanel sleeps in a crate in the same room (in clear view) of the Boston. I'm finding that more often than not, I have to spearate the two because little Chanel is just relentless in her torment. Any suggestions for helping them become friends? pabrocc in NJ :animal36 |
Hi and welcome to YorkieTalk. Some dogs get along right away.. some take some time. And you got 2 dogs with a very different energies level. As long as they aren't fighting I would worry. Walking them together should help them getting along. Good luck |
Hello, and WELCOME to YT! Chanel is a puppy! And, a YORKIE puppy, at that. LOL She has energy to burn, hon, and if you're very fortunate, she will be playful for her entire life. Though she will settle down from her present energy level. ;) Congratulations on being 'owned' by the most intriguing, FUNNY, entertaining, loving breed. |
Learning to accept the new family member In our case it was the other way around, we had our little Piper 1st and then brought in my sons toy poodle. Piper was not very accepting at first and over all it took 5 weeks for them to become compatiable but it did happen, walking them together and playing and showing them equal amounts of love and play time I think helped alot. Also showing Piper that it was time to share spots on the bed etc helped her to realize whe was not loosing her own spots just letting someone else enjoy as well, after a year of having them together Piper now waits by his kennel in the morning for us to let him out so they can go outside together. So yes things can turn around and your older one will probably end up being protective over your little yorkie :) |
