Using Katie's "play dead" instructions, Coby learned in one evening (Thanks for the tips!!). He's nowhere near as polished as Maxi yet tho!

But I taught this trick less than a week after he learned "shake", so now when we get the treats, his butt hits the floor, his paws start flapping, he lays down, and then lays flat (for dead) ---- all before I can even give a single command. He doesn't know which one I'm gonna want. So instead of waiting for a command ("how inefficient" he says), he just does them all knowing that one of them will be right.

I think we'll work on the "wait til I tell you" command since he hasn't mastered that one yet. :rolleyes:

I bought Maxi a laser light thinking he might chase it but no he figured out where the laser is coming from in less then a minute. So instead of chasing laser light he was going after the thing that makes the laser :D I cant trick him into anything :rolleyes:

It is easy to correct them when they do all the tricks in one guessing what you ll ask. Maxi used to do that too. When you say command play dead make sure he does and stays in the position. If Cody starts doing different command say again play dead and if he stays instead of going to a different trick praise him right away. Maxi once in a while tries to do play dead and roll over right away I guess by knowing that roll over comes next. So what I do is telling him another command instead of roll over. ;)

Nicely done! Max has learned the same sorts of tricks that our first Yorkie was able to accomplish, and training him was a breeze. Our current Yorkies are more difficult to train, not because they are less intelligent IMO, but because they have their own agenda and are more stubborn. I know that based on their behavior, like coming to get me when they pooped on the paper so that we can hand out a treat and such. Those types of behaviors were not trained, but they were learned. Distinguishing individual toys by name and fetching on command is difficult. Our male LOVEs fetch, and in a pile of toys, there is only one he wants to play with (go figure). So when he is siting there waiting for me to toss a toy, I may have to go through the whole pile until I get to the one he wants me to toss, so that tells me they definitely know the difference, but getting them to bring you a certain toy they are not interested in is very hard in my experience.:thumbup: Also, I really like the way you don't have to give Max a treat after every treat. Dogs should not need that constant treating for motivation, but a "good boy" should be enough after they learn the trick.
