Helper Dog.... Too funny.... At my house we have four dogs: Yorkies are Maggie (age nearly 4, weighing 4 pounds), Molly (age nearly 7 months, weighing 2.5 pounds), and MacKenzie (age about 3 months, weighing 1.75 pounds). Then there is poor, long suffering Chelsea (age around 13 years weighing 35-40 pounds...a terrier mix found abandoned in a parking lot years ago). I say that Chelsea is long suffering, for, while she was never an "only dog", when she came to us, our other pups were adults and didn't want to play such games as "Let's ALL Pretend That We're Chelsea's Ear-Rings, and Clamp on By Our Teeth and Let Her Carry Us Around the House!" (After all, isn't that why Chelsea has those "hangy-down ears"?) Anyway, the past week or so, I've really been working with Molly to teach her to sit on command. (I know this isn't much for a lot of you with very clever well trained dogs, but it's a start! I LOVE the look of little yorkie butts slamming down onto the ground in a sit!). Since my girls all eat dry dog food exclusively, it always becomes a matter of what I'm going to use for a training aid (BRIBE). I have found that the pups LOVE cat treats...particularly tuna flavored Pounce (which can be broken up into even smaller pieces for the bribe. I can normally get about four sits per piece of pounce...two from Maggie, who already knows how to sit but wants in on the treats and two for Molly). Last evening everyone was hanging around, and everyone (including Chelsea) were getting wee bits of the Pounce (which really does make their breath smell disgusting...UGH). After we had ended and I had gone into another room to do something, I heard what sounded like herds of pups chasing through the house (keeping in mind there are 4 dogs and two very old cats living here....not to mention Fred the Bird). I went back to the family room to find Miss Chelsea walking about carrying the jar of pounce in her mouth followed by three yorkies with very hopeful looks on their faces, and two cats (who also recognized the treat jar). A regular pied piper thing. Of course since they don't have an opposable thumb between them, I don't know how they thought they'd twist off the lid! Pretty funny. The treat jar has now moved from the endtable to the kitchen counter. I don't think that Miss Chelsea could chew through the jar, but am certainly not willing to risk it. |
So cute, its really something to watch the group get into trouble, mine do it all the time and the look on thier faces seem to say "The other one made me do it, really mom, really its all thier fault..but is not that the reason we love the sooooo |
That is too cute and funny... |
I couldn't help but wonder if the babies were sitting for Chelsea! :D |
