New Yorkie Mommy Here!
 

Hi! After wanting a Yorkie for years I finally got one this last week and now I already want another! I wanted a girl but just couldn't afford a girl right now so we got a boy... but I'm already saving for a girl! I just love this doggie and I wish I would have gotten him YEARS ago, I love having a small dog! We also have a very large dog and the two are doing wonderfully together!!! I am so tickled to have a Yorkie I can't stand it. I'm happy to have a place to get information from! My name is Melissa and my Yorkie's name is Barnum (our other dog's name is Bailey). Pleased to be here!

Your baby boy is really cute.......I'm sure you'll have that girl soon. But, you'll soon discover that boys are oh so loveable and very attached to their mommies.

Answer and Questions HELP????!!!!
 

Yes, to answer someone's question I did get him in Lancaster but not from our DEFAMED puppy mills here. I got him from a breeder and he's ACA registered.

Now, I have a question - he went to the vet and got everything checked out and got his necessary inoculations and things - what does it mean when he scrapes his little bum on the ground after he goes? He did that yesterday and had one heck of a mess I had to put on gloves and give him a soak in warm water to get him cleaned off (looked like a freaking eeeny meeeny cow patty stuck to his bum). Then today we saw him do the sit and slide thing again. Anybody know why??? I don't think he has worms or anything, the vet checked him. Is it just his way of getting clean?

While I am on this subject, what was the best way you all housetrained your yorkies?? I just watch him ALL the time but he has had a couple accidents. I take him out after waking, half hour after eating, exercising, every half hour in general I just take him out to go.

Sorry, this turned into several questions...

Oh, and one other thing, is it normal for a puppy this age to be humping ALREADY?????

He appears to need his anal glands expressed.

How old is he? In general and on an average to expect 100% success until approximately 6 months old. Yorkies are toy dogs and are going through so many changes, teething, growing, etc. and have the attention span of an ameba. Just keep on doing what you're doing he'll eventually get it.

Potty Training...this worked for me!
 

Chewy is 41/2 months old... He only goes outside and he goes with in 3 min or less!(no kidding!) Chewy is not neutered yet... Here is how I did it. :D


1. I bought a baby play yard-I think it's the same as an ex-pen but plastic...

2. Put little rocks in side so he couldn't dig and get dirty every time he went potty! And I lined the edges with bricks...(He likes to step up on the bricks when he is done! MY friend's Yorkie does this too!)

3. Put a few leaves on the rocks to hold the smell so they get the idea! Or transfer some of the stuff from where he has been potting so he knows what to do!

4. Take your baby out at least every hour to try... Chewy goes just about every time we take him out... I tell him to potty.. go Pee or Poopie! I also started off giving treats till he got the idea.

5. Watch your Yorkie nonstop when he is in the house and the second you see him start to go... say (don't yell) No no no no..quickly take him out to his POTTY! Chewy got the idea that going in the house wasn't ok after doing this about 4 times!!! Before that I would just clean up the mess and not say anything but I don't think he realized it was any problem!!!

Before I took my friends advice and did this play yard thing I would walk Chewy and he WOULD NOT GO! He sniffed EVERYTHING!!! But never took the time to go potty! Then would go inside...:mad: I was at my wits end. I think the thing about them having a potty place is there is nothing to sniff... once they sniff it out in the beginning it is always the same! If Chewy doesn't go within 5 min we go back inside.

Chewy humps once in a while and we just distract him!

What does anal glands expressed mean??? I've never heard of it before!
