New to YT Hi, all, I've been lurking for a bit, but it's time for us to introduce ourselves. Demi is a 4-yo neutered female who was given up by her previous owners because she had behavior problems and they didn't have time to work with her. Thank goodness, because I am nuts about her, and since I work from home she gets plenty of attention. We have no behavior problems (well, since we don't have carpeting, the not-so-occasional accident is not a problem). Demi finished basic obedience last week (and she was class valedictorian, highest score!), and we went straight into a freestyle class and tonight we started a combo intermediate obedience/agility class. She did great in both classes! I figured she'd be okay in freestyle because she's smart and she learns tricks quickly, but I was pleasantly shocked that she was as good at agility as she was. And it was only the first class! My name is Jay, btw. But enough about me. Let me tell you about my dog. Besides basic obedience, she is working on the following tricks: Jump through a hoop Play dead Crawl Down with chin on floor (working up to the point where she can put her paw over her eye Spin Twist Under (through legs) Dance Speak She has the first two down well, the rest are in various stages of development. So that's that. Thanks to everyone here for sharing your expertise. Jay

Welcome to YT, I'm impressed. Mine know how to eat and poop. LOL Seriously though, I went to a dog show this past weekend and watched the agility trials. It was fun to watch and those dogs looked like they were having a ball. Are the classes expensive?

The training is $90 for 7 weeks of basic obedience (and unlimited phone support), the first intermediate class is also $90, and after that, it's $45 per 7 week session. Classes are about 90 minutes; intermediate classes are about 45 minutes of agility and the rest of the class is offlead sit/stay/heel/etc. The trainer slips in a lot of freebie classes that any intermediate student can attend. He also sponsors a flyball team, a parade drill team, and the freestyle team. The drill team is free to join, I don't know about the flyball team, and the freestyle is $40 for 5 2-hr sessions (spread over 10 weeks)and is run by another trainer (who also offers unlimited phone support). I've worked with the primary trainer before, with a different dog, and I think he does a great job. The difference between him and the freestyle trainer is really interesting to me -- I am learning a lot, and it's a ton of fun to work with Demi, because she picks up on everything so quickly. I've had dogs my entire life, but Demi is a real stand-out.

| Welcome to YT - that sounds wonderful what you are doing with your dog. I have a 8 month old male and have still not gotten him in any classes but really would like too. It is so hard to hold his attention for a long period and he gets so excited that he just goes bonkers. You have inspired me to look into some training for Murphy. Thanks and congratulations on your beautiful and talented baby!

Welcome to both of you. Boy the two of you have been busy. It all sounds great. I wish we had flyball where I am . I watch it on TV and those dogs are so fast. I really could see Buddy doing that but he would probably take off with the ball! She is real lucky to have you.
