My little swimmer
 
Gus is all set and ready for summer. Well not really but we are getting him used to the pool again. He wants nothing to do with the pool. But I am so scared of him falling in and not knowing how to get out. So this weekend was so nice and hot out, we were all in both Sat and Sun. He's ok when he's in my arms or on a raft with me but he don't care too much about swimming and playing.

Awww, how cute, he swims fast. Lexi and Tori have to wear a life jacket, either one can keep their head above water. Don't know about Candi yet. we will see soon.

Really? Has she always loved it? I'm hoping Gus will one day love it but for now he hates it.

Thank you for saying that Tricia, people think i'm a basket case when i tell them that Chelsey wears a lifejacket to swim because she can't keep her head up... they look at me - frowning, they tell me that EVERY dog can swim :rolleyes:

Sometimes i just give up, trying to explain :cool:

I wonder if a life jacket will help Gus to not be so scared to swim? But I honestly think he's just not a water kind of dog.

Gus is such a cute little fish! I also have a pool in my back
yard. Teddy tolerates it if I am in it only so he can be near
to me, but the little guy Toby absolutely loves it! We had to
redo our fence set up because he kept heading right back
for the pool everytime he stepped foot out side and he was
skinny enough that he could fit through the fence slots.

I'm jealous! The leaves have just come out on the trees up here so swimming is a ways off yet :(

He's so cute! I'm getting a life jacket for Topher...I just have the feeling that water isn't going to be his fav. thing!

I don't think so. Maybe if he was always in there. We have the purified system but we still have to use Chemicals. Just a bit less. I used to worry about his hair because it does a number to ours after some time in the pool. I use Pantene leave in conditioner everyday during the summer months on me and Gus. I can tell when it get a little to hot for him so I am constantly soaking him down from the neck down and the occasional dip in the pool and noticed that if I don't spray him down, his hair starts looking really dry. Other then his hair I don't worry about the chemicals.

I had a schnauzer that couldn't swim, and an older brother (we were all adults at the time), who kept telling me "every dog can swim." :rolleyes:

One day, he and his family were in town visiting and we were all at my Aunt's pool with the dogs. My brother kept insisting that Fritz could swim. Finally, I told him, to go ahead and take him in, but HE had to save him when he started to panic and go under.

TEE HEE....Fritz got over it quickly, but my brother still has the scars on his stomach where he was clawed during his rescue! :)

Poor little Fritz. But it's true. Not all dogs can swim. My uncle had 2 Labs, brother and sister. and the boy loved loved loved the water. he was one of the jumpers. It was so fun watching him go. But the girl wanted nothing to do with the water. I think it's because she fell in when she was a pup and just sank. She used to watch her brother from a far. You couldn't get her near the pool for anything.

Kobe does not like to swim in our pool. And he is not a graceful swimmer. When I put him on the raft if it comes near me he will try to climb up on my shoulder. But he always feels so good when he gets out. He just runs around and rubs on everything.
