| Here's My Rescue BITSY This is my first posting in the forum. Several years ago I adopted what the shelter told me was a Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix dog. She didn't act anything like my other Chinese Crested & Crested Mix dogs, so I did a DNA test on her. It turns out she's 100% Yorkshire Terrier. Apparently she's a blue born, since there's no such thing as a "hairless" Yorkie. She has quite an extensive wardrobe of pajamas, t-shirts, and dresses to protect her skin. |

| Welcome to YT and thank you for rescuing. Bitsy is a lil sweetie. That's really a log shot from a Chihuahua/Chinese Crested to a full blood yorkie. Maybe the shelter didn't want to say she was a Blue Born since they come with many health issues. It's good you did a DNA test on her, now that you know she's a Blue Born yorkie you can be aware of any health issue that may arise.

I truly believe the shelter had no idea what she was since she was hairless. | |

| Your pup is very cute and very lucky to have found you. One thing many people don’t understand about adopting shelter dogs is this: the “breed label” attached to a dog at a shelter is usually no more than one employee’s guess as to the breed or breed mix. This is true for almost all shelter dogs, but it is especially true with strays. A shelter — or even a rescue group — almost never has the resources to do DNA testing. At best, a shelter worker looks at the dog, and looks at a chart on the wall showing pictures of various dog breeds, and makes a guess. At worst, a shelter worker simply has a preconceived idea of what breeds are most common in the area (pit mixes, chihuahua mixes, lab mixes) and labels every dog one of those. Your pup was probably labeled by the former. Someone looked at her, thought she looked kind of like a chinese crested mixed with something else, and never considered the possibility she could be a yorkie because she doesn’t have a typical yorkie coat. |
