Help Vote to achieve LP Surgery
 
I have to face a reality soon, the reality of putting Jazzie through an LP surgery. She does not limp, whine, she runs, jumps and walks just fine but the fact is according to the vet, and orthopedic vet she is a level 3 LP. The cost of the surgery is about 2,000, both legs. The breeder said she would help with some of the cost, but now that I sent her the vets papers confirming the diagnosis, she is giving me the silent treatment. So I am selling some items, trying to find ways to make the money for this surgery.

So does she have any symptoms? I don't know much about how LP is diagnosed, but I'd consider getting another opinion just to be sure.

Hi, thanks so very much, just writing about her having LP and needing surgery brings me to tears. I know it has to be done but oooh my gosh, she is such a cuddly bug and I don't want her to be in pain from the surgery, I've read other peoples recoveries and my heart gets squished. I'm trying to work my way to the fact that she needs the surgery, everything will be ok, at this moment it still seems scarry. The orthopedic surgeon said its good to have it done between 10 months to a yr. Jazzie is 9 months already. :(

Roxy had LP surgery, we had many ups and downs with it, I have posed all about it here on YT just do a search and you can read about it.

But on the PLUS side, Roxy is such a different girl. I thought she was ok then, her only symptoms were that she did this 'skip' thing when she walked, which I always thought was just cute, until I found out that was LP :( We waitied a few months to have her surgery, but when I made the appt. it was b/c she started to limp quite often :(

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that it will be ok, and if you think she is good now, oh boy, just wait until her legs are fixed, that's when you will realize...'hey, she really did need that surgery' :)

Hi, when I got her she was 4 months old, I had read about diabetes, all other things but not enough about lp to realize that the popping I was feeling while holding her was LP. The breeder knew but failed to tell me, so when I took her to the vet for her first checkup he told me, she had a level 3. I mentioned it to the breeder and she told me, yes, she seems to have the lp but she with exercise, diet, she will grow out of it. I put all my faith in that and walk her 2x a day... denial. The whole lp diagnosis still bugged my mind so I took her to an orthopedic vet surgeon, and he said, her legs have strengthened but the part that covers the knee is to one side, it remains this way all of the time. I'm telling you she jumps, runs, walks, fine. She has not whimpered as if in pain but there you go, 2 vets already gave me the same diagnosis.

I know exactly how you feel!! I am going through the very same thing with my little girl Roxie, it just breaks my heart. She has LP: Grade 3 in her left and Grade 1 in her right. :cry: I have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday.

She will lift up her right leg - the Grade 1 - every once in a while when she is playing fetch and chasing after a toy. But she has lever limped or lifted up her left leg - the Grade 3. I am anxious to meet with the Orthopedic to find out his diagnosis.

It is funny how they don't seem to feel any pain. Jack had an injury when I got him. He ran, he did spinning tricks and he seemed perfectly happy, but his knee was out of joint all the time. He had surgery, and he's much, much happier. He runs on all fours.

Gracie is having LP surgery on 1/24, both legs. Her only symptom is not bearing weight on the stage 3 leg when going downstairs. From what I have been told, you can't predict how they will do if they don't have surgery. For me, I would feel terrible if Gracie was crippled later in life because I did not get this fixed. My girlfriend is a vet, she said that every time the patella luxates, it causes pain even though the dog may not show it. I wish your little one the best with the surgery and recovery.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I hope Gracies surgery goes Great. I will keep her in mind throughout the day and say prayers for her. Can you tell me her age? In Jazzies case the piece that is supposed to go over her knee stays permanently to the side, according to the vet. She shows no signs of pain, she stands on her back legs which I discourage, she runs, walks, & plays as well. So I am thinking of getting yet another opinion, I just want to does one put the pup through surgery even if its not showing symptoms of limping, holding the leg in? things that are commonly displayed with LP, perhaps you can ask your vet friend? I don't want Jazzie to be in pain, I don't want her to be crippled, either. I don't want to do the wrong thing for her either, you know?? I'm very, very worried about this.

Gracie is 19 months. My vet said there is no way to predict which dogs will tolerate the LP and which will end up lame from it. The only way to be certain that they will not be lame later in life is to have the surgery when they are young. I wish the best for your little one.
