lOOKING FOR LOVE I Just Lost A Little Yorkie To A Terrible Accident Last Week. I Have 2 Other Yorkies But They Are Bigger About 10 Lbs Each. "Baby" Was About 3.5 Pounds. She Belonged To My Mother Who Is In Assisted Living..she Is 97. I Think I Need To Give Her Another Dog But Am Unsure Now If I Should Get A Puppy Or A Dog. My 2 Dogs Are Female Yorkies And They Just Love Each Other So Much..they Kiss Each Other Constantly. I Am Just Not Sure What I Should Do ...I Loved The Little Dog So Much And My Mother Is Distressed Without It and at 97 I Hate To See her cry and be unhppy. I Want To Do What Is Good For My Mother, My Family And The Little Dog. I Also Have A Begal Cat Who Is Extremely Frisky And Could Scare A Little Puppy..any Ideas? |
Welcome to YT. I would think an older dog would be better. At 97, she may not be able to potty train, etc..a new puppy. good luck. |
Thanks for your reply The puppy/dog would live with me and the other 2 Yorkies as did "Baby". My mother is in assisted living ...the puppy/dog would just visit her. I am worried about bringing a new puppy/dog into the my house with a 10 yer old and a five year old Yorkie both female and that darn bengal cat who is very frisky |

I guess I wonder, at 97 and in assisted living, does your mother really need another dog of her own, or wouldn't visits from yourself and your other two yorkies be enough once the initial shock of losing this one has lessened a little. Maybe you could check with her assisted living caregivers and see what they think would be best. I do agree with patty58 in that an older more settled dog would be better for an older person. A visit with a super active puppy might be a bit to much for her to handle and/or hang on to,whereas an adult dog would be more apt to be happy to sit quietly with her on her lap. Whatever the case, I wish you and your mother the best and send (((hugs))) to both of you for your recent loss. |
My mother had "Baby" for almost 11 years. I bought her the dog for company after my father died. She was a show dog but got car sick so the breeder sold her to me when she was about 1 year old. She lived with me the last 2 years ...since my mother had to go to assisted living. I miss her terribly and I can't stand to see my elderly mother cry for her dog. It is a triple loss, the dog my mother and my grief. I have 2 other Yorkies but "Baby" never let me out of her sight. She was always on my lap or in a bed near my desk in my office...she did not care where I was or where I was going as long as she got to go along. I am devastated. |
In light of the fact that the pup would be living with you then I suggest maybe you work with just taking your girls to visit her unless you want to really have a new dog for yourself. |

Welcome to YT! Have you decided how to proceed? Have you checked out Hearts United for Animals there in Nebraska? Einstein looks like a great little guy - here's a link to him http://www.hua.org/Dogs-For-Adoption/Einstein.html |

Lucky Lady (Rose) Is right. I hope you find what you are loking for I still have not heard from my friend but she may be Out of town. Maybe when It warms out there we can all get togeter for a meet up. Rose also lives close to you and I ;) |
Thank you for your kind words. I am feeling better and the other dogs are not looking for her too much anymore...just once in a while. I hope to find a small female to bring into our home I think it will help us all especially my mother and me. If you hear of a small female let me know and again thank you |
