Making doggy clothing... I've been looking and there isn't that much boy clothing for dogs. I guess there is, but I either don't like it or its extremely expensive. Plus my little guy is really small and has little short legs so most shirts are too big. So I've decided that I'm going to start trying to make his clothing. I was wondering how I should go about starting this new hobby? Lol. I've never actually even used a sewing machine. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get a beginner one. All the sewing I've ever done was just by hand with needle and thread. I've just never actually made clothing. Any pointers? Lol. Maybe I want make my little Riley look to bad.

I just learned, I started out making blankets, the same way you make pillow cases. Then i did a Christmas Stocking, then tonight I did Dakotas dress. The only advice I can give you is, don't stop making them after your first time, it will take a few. I bought a lot of fabric bc I knew that I was going to mess up. Were you just wanting to do solid fabric, or print? You can find freee patterns online, they hardest part is getting the size right for your little baby!

I'm not sure what type of fabric I'm going to use yet. My boyfriend said we should measure Riley and get his sizes first. Lol.

Yeah, thats what I did with Dakota. I had a pattern and blew it up, always allow a few extra inches for your seam allowence. Like Dakotas chest is 11 in.. I think I left about 13-14 in, which i really needed to leave a little bit more. I don't know if you have a Hancock fabric near you, but I was just in there tonight and they have great sales, especially on Halloween fabric, so that way if you mess up, you didn't pay a lot for it.

| How funny that this was posted tonite. We just got home from shopping all afternoon. Hubby took me to the mall and we bought me a new sewing machine. Then went to WalMart and bought all kinds of sewing notions.... The clothes out there are soooo cute but kinda expensive for me....We are supporting a daughter(in college) and granddaughter. So I thought the next best thing would be to try and make my own.... I found a website that has a free harness vest pattern. http://www.sewing.circleofcrafters.c...stpattern.html They also have a dress pattern. I thought this would be a good place to start. Kelsey, Would love to see your dress for Dakota. I bet it is cute.

Glad you bought one!!! I am using my moms, that she never used, so its like brand new!! The dresses can be expensive to buy, and if you make them you can always pick out that fabric that you like. I posted a thread with the dress for Dakota.
