Traveling Yorkies Alone in Hotel Room? I wanted a Yorkie because I wanted to be able to take it traveling with me. I love to travel http:/www.picturetrail.com/cynthia I was just wondering how safe it is to leave your dog alone in a hotel room for a couple of hours. Do you talk to the cleaning staff about the dog? I am getting the traveling itch but now I am a little scared that Mya may not be safe in a hotel room when we are not there say having dinner at place where I can't take her. I would love to hear from people with experience about this. Thanks. |
Make sure you find a hotel that doesn't have a policy of no pets left alone. Many have a policy that if they do allow them to be left alone that they must be crated! I've been researching cabins in the north Georgia mountains and it took some doing to find a cabin where Carter doesn't have to be crated when we're not there. |
May be when you aren't in the room with her you could put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door. I would be so nervous about a stranger having access to my baby with out me there to make sure she didn't 'accidently' leave with the housekeeper. |
Communication should be the KEY I'm sure that if you talk to the staff, They would be accomidating. And the "Do Not Disturb" should surely help. Please tell us about your experience. :D |

We have lkeft our two babies alone with out being crated. but, usually if its to eat i just tell mike to bring it back to the room. Then if we do fleamarkets or etc we take them with us. |
If your like me,,, I take my Gus everywhere with me. He has a leather doggy bag that he travels in. The minute he hears the keys he run in it. It breaks both our hearts when I have to leave him for a long period of time. When I have to leave him, my husband tells me that he'll just sit by the door and wait there till I return. We recently went to a Quineeanera (A girls 15 year old coming out ceremony) in Arizona. It was a 5 hour drive, with 2 potty breaks he loved it. I wasn't about to leave him with a sitter. Not only did he to Arizona with us, he went to the church and dinner after too. As long as I am right there by him he's ok in the bag. I know I know,,,,, we're bad |

We recently stayed in a hotel (I think I posted this video already, but here it is again) - the hotel was in Asheville, N.C. Quality Inn and Suites I believe, and they are very pet friendly! Elias and I left Sully in the room while we went shopping for a couple of hours. Of course, we left the "do not disturb" sign on the door....and there were absolutely no problems! :) Sully was king of his own luxury suite (at least in his own mind, lol). We were sure to leave him there with food and water, and his favorite toys and a sweatshirt that smelled like mommy :) Good luck on your travels! |
My hubby has some physical problems that requires treatment in a city 5 1/2 hours from where we live. We go there rent a motel room that is pet friendly and don't leave them there any longer than we have to. Usually we only take one or another of them but now I'm worried about leaving them in the room at all. I mean we don't go to a restaurant to eat out if we take one of our babies and we try to take them with us if we are just going to a fast food place. |
I will be taking my Yorkie and toy poodle with me when I have to stay at a hotel for job training. I'll either buy a roomy nylon crate for them (the one with lots of mesh on it), or I'll take my doggy gate and gate them in the bathroom with their toys, etc...My biggest fear would be that if I didn't do this and left them loose they would sneak out the door. Definitely let the hotel manager know they're there. Many hotels that allow pets are very accomodating. :) |
Cyn- Your travels are amazing! It's incredible that you've seen so much! The only hotel expereince I have with Olivia is sneaking her into a motel in NJ the night I got her. She was so exhausted and nervous to be with new people that she slept and was quite the whole night. I would also definitely recommend the "Do Not Disturb" sign when you're gone. |
... I took my then 4.5 month old, who was 1.5 pounds w/ me to LA and he did great. We left him in a all tile bathroom with some toys when we absolutly had to leave him and put do not disturb on the door. we asked them to clean the room when he was with us. I was so paranoid someone might steal him, or he would get hypoglyciemic, but he was fine! We didnt want to pack a crate and it is so small, so the bathroom was ideal. best of luck! ~chelsea |
Can anyone suggest a hotel for me and Remy to stay when we go to Richland, Mo next week to pick up my puppy. I don't even know what's close to there. |
When I take Remy with me I just sneak him in and out and put the do not disturb on the door. |
