What's in a name? 2 Attachment(s) I LOVE all of the fun names that your furbabies have and I thought it might be fun to tell why your baby has the name it does? Is there a special meaning...did you name your baby before you met him/ her? Tell us here. I'll start: 1. Valentino- I wanted an Italian name (I am italian) and when we first talked to the breeder she told us Tino was "a dog of substance" aka chubby..and that he always wanted to be snuggled. So I found Valentino meant "Strong lover"...and it was perfect for him! 2. Lolita- I wanted a name to go with our "love" theme and once we met Lola we knew she'd be a heartbreaker...she was so tiny but had such a beautiful face. And as you know...whatever Lola wants...Lola gets! |
Susanah's full name is Scarlet Susanah Belle. Scarlet - because I wanted something Southern. Belle is in tribute to my beloved Annie-Belle who passed away in March. I'm not really sure how Susanah got in the mix. It just fit and it suits her perfectly. My Annie-Belle's full name was Agnes Anastasia Belle. Agnes (after Agnes Scott College) Anastasia because I wanted a yorkie since I was 4 and had always planned on naming her Anastasia. Belle because it means "beauty". |
:) Larsson - Because my fiancee's favorite soccor player is Henrik LARSSON, who played for the scottish team Celtic. haha, i love him so I agreed Jinky - After another soccor player who played for Celtic in the 1960's. You gotta love my boyfriend I got to pick the dog so he got the names |
Ok here goes, Charlie, that was my dads name and he loved animals as much as me:) Karleigh., I just love the name and wanted to name another child that, Joey..After my BIL who passed, he also shares my birthday:) Molly Mae,, once again i love that name, we call her mae mae;) great post:D |
Wizzar - he was rescued, and he came flying at us when we went to collect him. Pixie- because the first picture from the breeder of the litter she was smiling cheekily at the camera and when we met her she was the most boisterous and imp like!! Sparkey - I lived with a family while at the academy and they had a yorkie called sparkey who i took care of for a year and a half. |
Cali short for California Dreaming because my family would love to live in California one day. Pixie was named by the breeder and was 13 months old when I got her and she fits her name. |
Wylie - (my 3 yr. old) - me and my husband's favorite poet is Elinor Wylie, we quoted her alot when we were first dating. Since my pets always have 3 names, it turned into Wylie "The Floop" Fitzsmudge (Floop is his nickname, Fitzsmudge we made up). Marcel's first name is after Marcel Proust; Verdel is in honor of the dog Verdel from "As Good As It Gets". So, of course, we had to rhyme and it turned into Marcel Verdel Purcell! |
Hokule'a means 'bright star' - Since I'm from Hawaii I wanted a Hawaiian name and she had a star-shaped white patch on her chest when she was born. Kalani - Since Hokule'a has a serious heart murmur the breeder gave me Kalani as a replacement pup and I wanted his name to relate to hers - Kalani means 'sky/heaven'. |
Bismarck - My husband named him because his Dad had an imaginary dog named Bismarck. He would entertain the grandkids with the "dog" which had a see thru dog house which he built. DC - I named her because my husband and I met in Washington, DC. When she was a young puppy, it fit for "devil child" because she was so fiesty. haha They both are very special to us. |
Reece - When we got him he looked like a little peanut butter cup...I wasnt fond of the spelling Reese so I changed it to Reece.. Soleil (So-Lay) - Soleil's parents both have french names and I wanted her to have a french name also...Soleil is a very light coloured yorkie...the colour of the sun/sunshine which in french mean Soleil!! Good thread!! |
Lucy Blue Rose -- Lucy because I told my husband if we ever had any more children (at which time he turned quite pale) I would name her Lucy. The second we brought her home he named her Lucy so we couldn't have a baby named Lucy...lol Blue because that was my Grandfather's middle name Rose is my last name Lucy Blue Rose :) Most of the time we call her Lucillygirl |
Layla- well Layla almost had MANY names (Gracie, Maggie, Tira,) but we all coudln't agree.... but my dad and i DID agree on Layla, althouhg my mom didn't like it.... so Layla it was. i wanted a "person" name.... Layla means Dark Beauty which fits her SO well because she still has all her black puppy color! we named her before we met her but after we saw her pictures :) |
Momiji means "autumn leaf/maple leaf" in Japanese. She is autumn girl! (born September) And her hair color changes like autumn leaf. Hazuki means "August" in Japanese (Old language) and she was born in guess when, August. |
Well, I'm a big baseball fan and love the Cleveland Indians. Our baseball stadium is called "Jacobs Field" and everyone calls it "the Jake". That's where I got Jake's name. I named him before I got him. I honestly don't know where I came up with Lily's name. I saw her picture and the name "Lily" popped into my head and it stuck. So, we named her "LilyAnn". I still have to come up with a name for my new little guy. |
Mighty Mouse Although she's gone to doggie heaven my little Mouse got her name because she was so shy and when I met her she ran under the bench I was sitting on and then ran along the base board. She was also very small - just barely 2lbs. (She never got any bigger than 4.5lbs) I laughed and said, "She's so tiny, like a Mouse!" Later when I got home she continued to run from room to room along the baseboards. Part of the reason was, at the time, I had a big female doberman. Mouse was smart and didn't want to get stepped on by her rather ungraceful big sis. Mighty got added soon after when one day she was sitting on the bed with me. Something got her attention and instead of using the puppy stairs I had beside the bed, she just took a flying leap, flew into the air will all fours stretched out and jumped to the floor. My heart skipped a beat but she didn't hurt herself and went tearing out of the room along with her big sis. After that she never did take the stairs going down! :) Mouse's Mommy :rbyorkie: |
What a coincidence, I just wrote my explanation of Luigi's full name in another post that I did... ;) Luigi's full name is: Luigi Q. Cwunchy III :D My boyfriend thought of the name "Luigi" and I just thought it was perfect for my little dog. Then, we remembered this episode from The Chipmunks where Alvin, Simon, and Theodore named their puppy "Cookie Chomper III." I originally was going to name Luigi, "Crunchy," but people thought that was kinda weird and gross (haha..I THINK IT'S CUTE!) and so I changed it to "Cwunchy" (the way a baby or little kid would say it..to kinda make it sound nicer heh), and then added the "III" for no reason (kinda taking off the Chipmunks episode)...I definitely have never had a Luigi Q. Cwunchy I or II before! haha. And then randomly picked a letter of the alphabet.... "Q." .....which means nothing ;) The name fits him just right and I love seeing the reactions people have when I tell them his whole name ;) It's usually..."WHAT THE HECK??" |

Funny! I was just thinking of starting the same post, but wasn't sure if it had been done before! I think it's interesting how people choose their pet's names! Max came with his name when I got him, and I thought it suited him. I have a kind of cute story about both of my cats though....I named Cesare (chez-ar-ray) that b/c I had a mama kitty who had her kittens in my living room behind the sofa. I had homes for most of them and was going to keep 2 of them. I was at Target one day, and the checker was a young black man and his badge said Cesare. Well, I commented on it, b/c it is sort of an unusual name and I knew that Robert Mondavi's dad's name was Cesare. The young man told me that it WAS an unusual name, and that ONLY TWO people in the WORLD had it:rolleyes: . It was so funny to me, b/c I'm sure he honestly believed that he was one of only two people with that name. I didn't have the heart to tell him I knew who the other person was, LOL. Too cute! Anyhow, I came home and named my little black boy Cesare:D . And my other cat came to my from my sister who'd gotten her from a client and she was an adult cat probably around the same age as Cesare was then. Her name was Cynthia. My BF at the time when I first started going out with him, had recently disentangled himself from a relationship with a girl who had given him and his daughters so much grief and had been stalking him etc etc; named Cynthia....so when I get this cat (which was a year or so down the road), and he finds out what her name is, he looked at my in utter disbelief and said " WHY WOULD you name her CYNTHIA????".....it was too funny. It never even occurred to me about the name being the same, but I didnt' name her! It still makes me laugh when I think about his reaction to it:D . Ok...I know...off the subject again...... |
Ceeby because he was named after an imaginary friend my son had at age three. Little fart because well, she is a little fart. her given name is Dixie Dollbaby. |
I have had the name Sir Jeter Pendragon Petrick picked out for quite a while now. He is yet to be born but my breeder has a liter due September 25, so hopefully he will be born soon! We will call him Jeter when we get him. I have had the name Jeter picked out for a boy Yorkie for soo long. I am a Yankee fan and Derek Jeter is my favorite player. My hubby told me this May that I could start looking for my Jeter and I will hopefully be getting him home in December. His middle name is going to be Pendragon because I love King Arthur story's and so that is how we got Pendragon. Also the Sir is for being a knight from the Round Table, my youngest son picked it out. Petrick is our last name and we want him to have it too! |
hmmm lacey was going to be shilo or ella everyone yelled at me and said i had to keep doing L names. now we have lilly, lexie, lucy, lola, and lacey. i have never looked up any meanings bad mommy :) |
My Tootie... wellllll, his "given" name is "Hartley's Teddy Bear" - he is my duaghters dog.. HAHA.. her name is Hartley and she picked the Teddy Bear part... but somehow he was just a CUTEY PA "TOOTIE"... and Tootie stuck! My Hope... she was named Hope by her breeder (lksdolls), and being one of Reggies miracle babies I could never change her name.. her "given" name is "Reggies HOPEful Demitasse of La".... because she is Reggies baby and brought so much HOPE to me and she is TINY and of course we live in Louisiana.... d |
Benji Blind Rootin Hog.......Blind Rootin Hogs is our band name...my Dh calls him "Bootle Head "...I dont know why !!! He looked like a Benji , but I call him Boobie, Boo or Noodle...... |
I had dreamed of owning a Yorkie someday for as long as I can remember, so accordingly my first yorkie was named Lucky Lady's Dream Dog (Lucky for short) We debated on our female yorkies' name between either Roxie (after the character Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago and Lexie (not sure how we came up with that name). We opted for Lexie; full name Lovely Little Lexie in keeping with the "L" names and it seemed to fit her better. |

Kingston was named by my bf. It was between Kingston, Charlie (my choice), Hiro from the show Heroes, and Yoda from Star Wars. We first heard Kingston from Bob Marley's song Trenchtown Rock, then again on UB40's Kingston Town and then finally on Toots and Maytal's Funky Kingston. Then Gwen Stefani named her son that. When we saw him, it fit better than all the other names we picked out and the rest is history. As for his AKC name, Kingston Nesta of Hollyhood, Nesta is after Bob Marley and my Dad. Hollyhood is from the Three Six Mafia's MTV reality show. It's also the place we call home ;) |
We started looking for Keifer when we found that our beloved Cooper had cancer and only had a few months. We wanted something to honor such a wonderful dog. I knew Cooper was old English for Barrel maker.... Then when I researched Keifer (Who doesn't love Mr. Sutherland?) and found in its old German form it meant Barrel maker!! We knew we had our name. Plus doesn't Keifer just sound like what a little York would say if he could talk? Kind of a lisp type word. |
