I am so happy you are keeping him. I guarantee you won't regret it. I know it is disappointing to not get what you were expecting and paid for. Cali was 1 lb at 10 weeks and is now 5lbs from a backyard breeder. She was so sick her first year and cost a fortune in vet bills and heartache. I was told she would be 3 lbs and that's what I paid for but I love her so much and 5 lbs is tiny. When I decided to get another one I wanted to know exactly what I was getting so I contatced a very reputable show breeder who happened to have a 3lb female that was 13 months old. I went to see her and brought her home. She is exactly what I wanted. The one draw back to these tinies is that when they do get sick you can't take chances and they need to go to the vet. Pixie has been healthy but a bout of vomiting just cost me 360.00 at the er vet, where with my bigger dogs I usually ride it out a day or so. Your puppy is adorable and looks fine boned so he may surprise you and stay pretty small. I also have had 6 and 7 lb yorkies and they did not seem much bigger than my 5 lb one. I can tell by your later posts that he winning you over already!!! |

My boyfriend is actually a pediatric nurse and he takes care of babies that are 2 or 3 lbs sometimes. It's weird seeing such a small baby. But they are so cute and tiny. |

That's the name I like. But my boyfriend doesn't :( I will have to convince him :p |

She is now 11 and bigger than all my kids were at that age!! Have you bribed him into a name yet...I still say he looks like a Punkie to me!! I just LOVE that name!! Dawn |

LOL, yes, he is. He's so affectionate that it's hard to not melt. And he's so well behaved now compared to when we got him. He's adjusting really well :) |

I'm still trying to convince him for the names I like, but he ended up having to go into work for the night, so hopefully by morning time the little guy will have a name :D It really is scary when you see a premature baby that small. I'm glad your niece is healthy and strong. |
I've been reading this thread, and I know you've said already that you are keeping him but I just want to re-assure you :) My dog was "supposed" to weigh 5 lbs full grown. When I took him to the vet last month, he weighed 6.1 lbs at only 4 months  The vet said that anything could happen at this point- his growth could plateau in a month, right around 7lbs or so, or he could continue growing past 10 lbs!!!!Just to show how unpredictable it can be! Also, when you carry around a bag of food, you have to keep in mind the weight distribution. I work in a nursury school/preschool, and carry around 15-20 lb kids all day, so I don't even notice when I carry my 6 lb yorkie. However, I do always think that his food is heavier than him, when in fact he is slightly heavier than the bag of food!!! It is completely different. ;) I carry my dog ALL the time- sometimes too much, I think. He really isn't heavy at all. Also, you'll still be able to buy bags for him that he'll fit in, and it will make carrying him a little easier on your arms.By the way, Innova is a great food. I wanted to feed it to my dog, but I couldn't find it anywhere around here, so I had to go with a similar food of a different brand. Good choice! I'm so glad you are keeping him! These guys really nestle into your heart, don't they? -O |
Size isn't everything I have had yorkies for over 20 years. If he is 5-6 pounds, he will still be small. Why are you so set on getting a tiny one? I have found personality, disposition, and mannerisms are more important than size. He has a pretty face and his hair looks good and healthy. Usually the small ones have a lot of personality, skin, allergy and neurological issues. Please consider keeping him, I have never been able to giveup a baby because of its size. He has so much love to give. |
I'm so glad you are keeping him :) Please keep us informed how things are going. |
I just found this thread. Welcome to YT and congratulations on your cutie pie new baby. Max is 8 lbs and I like it. He's nice and sturdy. He was supposed to be 4 lbs fully grown! |
