| So we're meeting up with a woman soon... ...to possibly get our first Yorkie. The good things right off the bat: 1) It has AKC papers. Although, I have heard that isn't rock-solid. 2) The woman isn't a breeder, so she doesn't run a "puppy farm". 3) She also seems very nice, willing to meet us halfway to show us the puppy...even willing to bring the mother and father if we want to see them.\ 4) The father has championship bloodlines, and she's willing to show us those papers if we want...although, I won't insist on it b/c we aren't buying a dog to show it off. One concern I had is this though...I hate to sound like I'm stressing out over a dog being full-bred and all...but the dog is already 5 pounds at 12 weeks...and the parents are both 7 pounds. I haven't really seen a chart online that gives me a way to kind of predict weight as an adult by its current weight...but 5 lbs at 12 weeks seems perhaps a little high...but then again, maybe it's because their parents are both on the high end of the spectrum. I mean, it's GOOD it isn't going to be a 3 or 4 pound dog...7 pounds would be awesome as an adult, I think. However, having a 10 pound monster is a little more than we would have bargained for.... Any thoughts on this situation? |

| If you look in this forum (General Yorkie Discussion) there's a 'sticky' with a puppy growth chart. You can look up his current weight relative to his age and see how much you can expect him to weigh full grown. Where is this lady coming from to meet you half way? I'm actually looking for a yorkie on the "bigger" side (they're all so tiny to me!) between 8 - 12 pounds. If you get any good leads, let me know

LUV my 3 Furrs & Alex Donating Member | One more thing to ask her for is to have a bile acid test done on the puppy just in case. Like that you'll know if he has a liver shunt or not. I am saying this b/c I wish someone would have told me about it before purchasing my 2 babies as one of them is very ill.

Then again, I guess you really can't account for anything....it could severly slow down and only weigh 7 or so lbs as an adult I guess... Weird thing is, both parents are 7 lbs, so for it to come out at 10 lbs would definitely be a genetic anomoly. | |

By the time he reaches full size though, his little paws will have such a grasp on your heart that you'll never care about his size

| He's more than likely going to be more than 7lbs. If I were to guess, I would definitely say around 10lbs at least. When you say that she isn't a breeder, what do you mean?

| Every dog grows differently, of course. But just as an example, my Baxter weighed 4 lbs at 12 weeks, and matured at 13 lbs. I was looking for a larger male, so I am happy with his size, but if you are looking for a 'standard' 7 lb yorkie, I agree that this puppy will probably mature at 10+ lbs.

| All I meant was that they don't do it professionally...like some of the people with a website and such... |
