dropped ears at 2 years old Is it too late to do anything about my baby's dropped ears... I'm taping them now but I assumed that after 3 months it was too late to do anything about it so i let them be... Recently I decided to give it a go but he pryed them off (the taped triangles on his ears.). Is it tooo late to try and reform his droops? He's soo cute but the ears just flop around and with the short hair people think he's a s**tzu mix EEK! I love all dogs but I think he should look like his breed... WHat are your experiences? is the only option to do it surgically? I'm not about to chop him up to make him fit in but i'd like to know if anyone else has been successful with the tape trick! :) |
Has his ears always flopped or is this recently? Are you keeping his ears tipped? |

My Otis's ears flop. I'd show you a pic but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I think it's adorable. It sort of shows his personality. Sometimes they flip up when he looks up at me and they look huge!!! Did you see the parents. I saw Otis's but I can't remember if they stood up or not. I worried for awhile, but I knew after 8 months or so, they wouldn't go up. Embrace your flop ear'd baby! |

Awww, I think he's precious with the floppy ears. What a cutie! If he was mine, I'd just leave them alone. I taped Gracies up when she was a puppy and I always wished I'd just left them alone because now they're lazy and kind of stick out to the side. |

Your baby look like 100% yorkie even with the ear flop,he is a cutie pie, i have a friend that her yourkie has her ears down too, i think that there is some people that don't know anything about yorkies, he doesn't look like tzu-mix to me. Now that i saw your bike i miss my now, :coolpics: |
Did you try shaving ALL the hair off his ears? I know when my Penny needs a haircut.... because her ears will droop when she gets too much hair on them... after her grooming... straight back up!!! She is the only yorkie of mine whose ears do that. Good luck. :) |

At 2 years I think his ears even with taping and shaving will stay down...Bruce's certainly did, although occassionally they seem perkier if he is startled or listening intently (never totally up)...You can have them surgically cropped, like they do with great danes or what not...Honestly, what is the point, IT IS COMPLETLY UNNECESSARY PAIN, and in my opinion it is cruel no one would likely tell a person you should have a characteristic altered to resemble you ethnicity more!...Your pup is gorgeous in my opinion you should not change anything! |

Sure he's so cute the way he is. My Boots ears are kinda floopy but i just think this adds to her charcater, actully my boots is totally the wrong colour, has curly toe nails but I wouldnt part with her for the world. Shes a wee darling. :) |
I think floppy ears are ADORABLE! You should leave him alone. He is a cutie anyway. |
My teapot yorkie, Dayzee's ears, never stood up regardless of what we tried. She has floppy ears, and I think she is adorable. All 10# of her. |

i dont see anything wrong with trying the tape. if it doesn't work, no harm done..but i would not resort to surgery. just let it be. if you are not breeding or showing, it won't really matter. but there is no harm in trying the tape. i am also struggling with maggies ears. she is only 5 months so I am still trying...i will try one more time for a few days and if that doesn't work, i am not going to do it anymore. i had taped them when she was 11 weeks old and they stood up for several weeks....perfectly...but now that she is growing her adult teeth, they are down again. so I will try one more time. i think they are adorable either way but I do understand wanting that classic yorkie look...i also want it. but will not go to extremes to get it. if the taping doesn't work, just enjoy your baby and know that he is healthy and that is all that matters :) he is very handsome, by the way :) both of your babies are lovely!!!!! |

Than you pepe mint for the compliments. And yes, I do love him to pieces. I visited your dogster page and really enjoyed reading about Maggie's arrival. She is a cutie pie and making me want a little girl yorkie. Someone give me a reality check...my little guy demands all my attention as it is. He also does not like other dogs. This isn't the right thread to mention this but does anyone have the problem of their yorkie being aggressive to other dogs? Poco Bocelli will snarl and jump at a much bigger dog and luckily the dogs he has done this to have been mellow and tolerate him but I worry that he will start something with a not so friendly dog |
my tucker has always had his left ear up and his right ear down. even when there's a lot of hair on the left ear, it still kinda stands up. it's so cute and adds to his character. i wouldn't want him any other way. :) |
