Animal Smiley 049 2nd yorkie blues

we introduced a new puppy to our home about 6 weeks ago. I have to say i have my hands full. This puppy is mean to the cat, mean to the other yorkie and just seems to be a nightmare to try and train. She is I guess what you'd call dominant, she tries to poo and pee on the toys, she will lift her leg to try and go on my other 2yr old yorkie's head. I keep thinking it wll get bettet between them and it's just a mess, my older yorkie is not good at putting the younger one in her place or the little one doesnt get that she's trying... she just drives everyone in the house nuts-even me sometimes. She is very nippy even with us. The new dog has found that she can hang from the older dog's hair and ears and so the older dogs hair is just matted almost to the skin -even though I brush her, it's right back where we started. She's been in puppy preschool since we got her because right away i saw the dominance thing being an issue-she is fine there, it's here w/the other dog that she acts up-i'm sure the trainer thinks i'm crazy when i tell her this little 3lb dog is terrorizing my other dog....

is it possible that they will eventually get along?
is it possible that two females was a bad idea? especially with a more dominant vs a more submissive dog? help!!! I am so discouraged... and I dont have enough time during my day to keep them separate-that just doesnt give enough "human time" with me to spend with them between sleeping and working......
let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

It can be really hard to introduce new dogs to each other. Did you introduce them on nutural ground when you brought the new puppy home? Six weeks ago is not a very long time and both of the dogs may just be adjusting to one another. A lot of times, one of the dogs will take the more submissive role and the other the dominant one and things will be okay.. but they both really need to know that YOU are the head "dog".

I have two females and a male... they're all under a year. The male was here first and adjusted fine to his new little sister Emma. Emma had a harder time adjusting to Lula..I think some females just don't like other females.

I'd look into hiring a behaviorist before it gets out of control. Puppy Preschool is GREAT.. but it doesn't really correct issues such as dominance and aggression towards other dogs. You might need a professional to help you in that area.

Good luck! I'm sure things will work out!

How old is she? Is she still a puppy? Is she being trained at day care or is that just where you take her when you are not home? It is hard if you are so busy you cant give her hands on, because you have to show who is boss(alpha) Some females are a little dominating. If you give up keep me in mind if you decide to rehome her I might be interested. I have a male and he has no trouble telling our Rottwieller who is boss.

The lifting of the leg is for the other dog to sniff her. My females do it all the time to each other and to my male. They are not trying to pee on the others head. I don't think this is a lost cause, but it will take some patience. Can you separate them when you can't watch them and give them together time only when an adult is present. I think your puppy is just being a puppy. How old is she?

I really think your puppy will calm down after she gets a little older. Mine are two year old and much calmer then they were when they were puppies. I think I noticed a difference in them at about a year old.

Oh, I know exactly what you are goinf through ! I bought a new puppy (9 m female) three days ago and she doesn't get along with Piccolo (13 m).
She is holly terror ! Snaps at him, takes ALL the toys away from him but only for the heck of it. She won't play with them - just waits till Piccolo gets a toy and grabs it from him right away.
The breeder told me she was housebroken, right! She pees and poos everywhere she wants.
She looks so sweet but in reality she is very mean. I have to separate them all the time, take the toys away and it drives me crazy. I can't imagine going through this for six weeks. The breeder gave me one week to return her but I don't think it's enough time to solve all problems. I am already madly in love with her but feel very sorry for poor Piccolo who is very gentle and much smaller than she is.
I really don't know what to do but keep hoping she will calm down.
Alaska's Yorkie gave me a great advice about establishing #1, #2 and #3 in our household. I really want Piccolo to be #2 to put her in her place.

Piccolo is with a ball and Annie just sits pretty pretending to be a "good girl",

yeah maybe it will work out-i wish i could afford dog-day-care, but she just stays in a play area i gated into the kichen while i'm gone and my older yorkie prefers to be in a kennel (she's nervous type) my puppy is about 3 mos or so, almost 4-she IS peeing on the other ones head and she backs into her when she tries to poo-I know because I've seen it-she also takes toys for the fun of it, she thinks it fun to be on the other dog's hair or bite her as she tries to run away-it's just sad. You'd think the older one's growling and snarling would tell the other one to give it up, but she doesnt and the only place she can get away to is in my lap-so of course, she is always running to get away or trying to get in my lap. I know, working and sleeping takes a lot of time, but we never had such a hard time w/my other dog-guess i was lucky.
we'll see about a behaviorist... it may be worth the time-but i'm just over it-frustrated. i've invested SO much time and engery and money into this dog... it's making me crazy. It's very strange because with the other dogs at school, she is fine-she will run and play and they will get rough, she'll roll over and she NEVER does that at home-she is always on gaurd and ready to take on my other dog. I just need my older dog to put her in her place somehow. oh well.... wish me luck.

She's TOO happy to have her own home. I had a dominate foster like that. I had never had to deal with that situation before then and just didn't know what to do except keep her in the doggie fence. I knew she had to be trained and I felt sorry that she was in the fence, so I just hooked her up in her harness and leash, led her around the house and around the other dogs (keeping the leash very short, and just gave her a little jerk each time she tried to grab anything or get too hyper. I would let her see the palm of my hand with each jerk. After doing this for about a week, many times a day, I then let her go without the harness & leash, but me in hot pursuit, and she wasn't eager to grab and kept looking at me. When she did try something I extended my arm and showed her my palm and she stopped. I kept this up with the good girl words she liked to hear.
