When you move out there are so many more expenses then just the rent. If I was in your position, I would wait until I was settled before I decided if I was going to get another dog or not. Also, from reading this thread it sounds like you don't have a job and your mom helps you out a lot. If this is the case, then I think your mom has every right to be upset. The money that you spend on another puppy could be used for bills, or in the savings account incase of an emergency. You just gotta plan ahead and prioritize. Of course 2 dogs is more fun, but it's also more expensive. |
Well - it's obvious that all the mothers here - seem to understand and agree with your mother.......so your mother must be doing something right. I think once you decide to wait to get a second dog - you'll be happy with your decision. Just tell your mother that you took your case to Yorkie Talk - and everyone agreed with her! Darn! Make it light and humerous - wait to get another dog - and make up with your mother. It's true - you only have one mother and that's all you'll ever have. And - she really is right on this one! And - please don't forget how lucky you are to have your other little dog that you can take with you. Most young working students don't even have one dog. I think you are one lucky little girl --- Hug your mom! Carol Jean |
2 Attachment(s) Thank you guys. I still don't know if I'm getting her but J/A is anyone interested in getting her if I don't? I would feel a whole lot better. She's a chocolate yorkie and she's adorable! Here's her pics. |
She's adorable and quite affordable for a chocolate yorkie girl, if anyone is looking for one and mizwanned can't get her PLEASE go get her! Then all of us here will be able to watch her grow :) |
yes please! Thank you Blondiegirl! The breeder said she should be 3-5 lbs full grown but I think prob. around 5. Her parents are 4.5 lbs and 5.5 lbs. |
where are you getting her from? and how much is she? I'm thinking of getting another yorkie to keep cash company. |
MIz Miz Miz --- I can't belive with the way your mother feels and all the advise you have been given here on YT -- that you are still considering getting this little puppy. Yes - it is a very darling little pup! That is true! But, I think you need to go back and read all the posts again!!! Hopefully, you will wait until you are on your own - more settled - financially solvent and totally capable of caring for yourself before you get a second little dog. I know - I sound like your mother - but this is probably because I agree with her 100%. Right now, indirectly, your mother will be paying all the bills that you incur with another dog (and they could be substantial). This isn't fair to her. Plus - remember you already have one dog. If I get her my mother will not be paying for anything for her. I will be paying everything for her, her vet bills, food, everything. The thing is I haven't spoken to my mother about her so I haven't made my decision. But I'm going to speak to her tommorrow and if she says no then it's no, if she says it's ok for me to have her then I will get her. I want her really badly and I can afford her. The only question is if my mom is ok with me having her in the house. Teddy goes crazy when I'm not home. I don't ONLY want her because I want a companion for Teddy but I want her because I can take care of her and I just want HER really badly. It is one of the reasons though. Today I left him for a second in the room so I could go downstairs to get something and he started barking like if someone was attacking him. I guess it's cause I'm always with him. I will let you guys know what happens. Cash's mommy she costs $1,100 plus shipping and the deposit. |
I was just wondering... what if you get another barker, that will cry after you, even though Teddy is already there? Does getting a playmate ALWAYS solve separation anxiety issues? what if it doesn't and you end up with two dogs barking and whining while you're gone. That thought keeps me from getting another pup, I was thinking about getting a buddy for Pepper too. And I know I can afford it right now, with the costs of vets, spay/neuter, any emergency etc. But I'm putting Pepper in daycare instead and still planning to get another little one maybe in a year or so - when I get a less demanding job closer to my home or move to a house, whichever comes first... |

Convince your Mom? Quote:
Your either a Dog person or not! Your either a Yorkie Lover or NOT? Once someone meets and is impressed with a Yorkie they are SOLD on them for Life, or if you come across one that is un-trained and poorly Bred you tend to get a bad first impression! The key is to get your Mother to fall in love too, that way she wouldn't think twice about another one? By the way I have 4 now so I know they are ADDICTIVE, so far it's the best Drugs (Anti-Depressents) I know of! It seems that if you got her involved she wouldn't feel left out? Good Luck! |
[QUOTE=mizzwanned]Today I left him for a second in the room so I could go downstairs to get something and he started barking like if someone was attacking him. I guess it's cause I'm always with him. I will let you guys know what happens. I understand how badly you want another yorkie, they are so cute. I have 2 teenagers and although they are great kids they have a different idea of what clean is then I do. They also clean up when they get around to it. Do you keep Teddy locked up in your room all the time? Does he get to run around the house? socialize with your parents or others that come over? A yorkie is small but they still need some room to run and play. Do you clean up after him well? or does your room smell like a puppy lives there? I am just asking these questions because you said your mom is not going to be happy with another puppy, but are you really ready for another one? Michele & Bailey:aimeeyork |

Hi, how r u? No i don't keep Teddy locked in my room the whole time, only when I go out because that is where his paper is to go potty. I even take him for walks when it's not too cold, or raining, or if it is I let him run in the hallway. When I am home he has the run of the house, unless there are many people over but they play with him. Everyone loves him. My mother doesn't not like dogs. She loves dogs. We actually used to have a dog before Teddy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It was more like her dog because he was so attached to her. And she LOVES Teddy. The only thing that made her complain about his peeing is my brother. My brother doesn't live with us anymore, he moved out but he came over one day to visit. My mother, being so proud of all the tricks I taught Teddy told my brother to watch him do them. Then my brother was like "I don't even wanna know about him, I don't even want to see him because as soon as I come in I can already smell the piss", which is not true. The house is always clean. So I guess it's my brother that doesn't really like dogs and now my mom heard him say that and he put some stuff in her head. But my mom loves dogs and loves Teddy. When I first got him she even wanted one for herself! I even put a thread up for her looking for a female dog because she asked me to. Now I don't know what happened. I guess ppl can influence you to change your mind. And it's funny because when my brother's ex had a yorkie he was IN LOVE with him. Then they broke up. Maybe the anger that they broke up made him stop liking them? He even said before that he wants a pitbull and he doesn't like MY YORKIE??? Teddy is too cute! He was even planning on adopting a pitbull from his precint, that was rescued from being a fighting dog, but sadly they had to put the dogs to sleep. |

Hi, I am glad you are thinking about this. Your mom could love your dog, just not want you to get another one right now? I am glad you don't keep him locked up in your room, mine gets upset if we lock her up anywhere, she is spoiled I guess and just wants run of the house. Well good luck with whatever you decide. What about your mom adopting the puppy you are thinking about? Then you could have visitation:) Take care, Michele & Bailey:aimeeyork |

Thank you! I know what you mean. Teddy is so spoiled too. He thinks he is human :p |
Okay Miz...... You were going to ask your mother and come up with your final decision. We are all anxious to hear how this works out.... So let us know what you (and your mother) have decided. Are you getting the new little puppy - or are you going to wait a while???? Don't leave us hanging........ Thanks, Carol Jean |
What happened to Miz! She left us standing at the alter --- Carol Jean |
I'm here I'm here!!! lol I swear I am going to let you guys know tommorrow..my mom is sleeping. I haven't really had time to talk to her. |

Ha! You procrastinator!!! |
[QUOTE=mizzwanned] Quote:
To me it sounds like your brother is just bitter, it could be because yorkies remind him of his ex, or maybe because the dog he was going to adopt had to be put down. Hopefully one day he'll learn to love Teddy |
I don't understand why in the world you would put a deposit on another dog ? It's your mothers house , period! She already has trouble with the expense of 1 pup and the peeing on the carpet. Like others said rent is only 1 expense of moving out. Car Ins, car payments, gas, health Ins, food, clothes, dr's appts, dentist, electric bills, heat, phone , school supplies, dog food, vet bills, shampoo, make up, going out with friends , laundry, the list goes on and on. I guess you can tell I am a mom too. My son is 22 and still lives at home and doesn't pay rent. Time for a reality check for him too ! Sorry to sound like a old grumpy woman , but all I can say as you will understand where your mom is coming from when you get older. College is a huge expense for a parent and then they are going to pay your rent too. Also replacing carpet in the home is expensive, thousands! Stick with your 1 darling puppy and wait until you are on your own and college is over. |

Yep. Time to look at things from Mom's perspective. There is SO much more involved than her "just not wanting another dog in the house". |
I guess I've just grown up a lot recently, because if this was a year ago or so, I would've said "Your paying for him who cares!" I agree with all the human-mommy's on here. Now I totally understand reasons of why my parents didn't want me to get another dog when I was living at their house. |
