Potty Training Woes...and I do mean WOES! Okay, here's the deal. I've been TRYING to crate train Nico. He did good at first...of course, we had our accidents here and there but that's expected with a puppy. Then he got into this "I'm not pottying outside NO MATTER how long u walk me" attitude. He'd hold it until we got in the house and then mess on the floor! :mad: I got scared there for a minute because my husband was really starting to loose his cool. Well, I was off a couple of days and I worked with him...made sure to give praise when praise was due...and I thought we were getting back on track. NOW he DOES go outside but that little booger must stop in midstream or mid-dump and save it because he will FINISH IN THE HOUSE!! :mad: :mad: :thumbdown WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??!! I KNOW THESE DOGS ARE STUBBORN BUT COME ON!!! |
Have you tried giving him a piddle pad in the house? We had trouble getting ours to go outside, too, and we eventually resorted to using the pad inside. It worked wonders. I'm not sure how old Nico is, but I'd say ours were about 8 months old before we considered them really trained, and there have been accidents occasionally since then. |
Tink seems to improve and then regress all the time. She's only 11 weeks, but yes, it's frustrating. I'm trying to train her to a piddle pad. She's doing better consistently with the poos (except when she eats them :eek: ) but the pee training is stuck in limboland. I seem to spend most of my time on my hands and knees with cleaners and towels and a brush. :cry: Wish I could offer some advice. Everyone here says to be patient and I have lots of that but... :idontknow |

Well, we must keep each other informed about our progress, or lack thereof! My pom and poodle both trained so easily. Two days and we were done. Not Tink! It's that vinegar thing - I swear she's full of it. |

I was having the same problem, my puppy his 14 weeks old but I have him litter trained - it did not take much to train him to go into the litter. I was getting very frustrated just as you are so I bought the dog litter and was very skeptical but it works. :) |
Anger / Frustration does not work. That only scares them. Persistence and Consistency is key to training our li'l ones. Contrary to what may seem, they do not lay awake nights scheming how to irk mommy by going potty on her persian rug. Abbie just turned one a few days ago, and I'd say it was between 8 and 9 months that we could really say she was trained. She is trained to paper in the house, and I had to convince her ONE place was acceptable. |

Dog litter? Like cat litter? I don't know about that. Where do you get it? Is is paper? Tink's birthday is in September but I don't know the day. Her first mom took her back to the breeder 'cause she was deaf and the breeder was going to put her down. The vet was upset and called the rescue group and they took her. I got her from them when she was 8 wks. She is not deaf - no way! She's just being a puppy. and then again there's that problem with the vinegar! |

I know. Poor little thing was so scared. She didn't know whether to bite or kiss. She's much better now. She eats her food really well. At first she lost 3 oz. 'cause she was so stressed. Now she just chews on her poodle brother:D and steals his food. I bought a handheld carpet steamer to help keep my carpet from getting ruined. Don't know if that will be a good investment or not but I'll try anything. So far I've done, Get Serious, Natures Miracle, Out, and now Simple Solution. Ho hum! |

How old is Nico? There are interesting things outside. He probably forgets to go until he gets back in. Or that is where he has learned to go. What you need to do is go outside and be boring. Stand in one spot with a short leash until he goes. When Loki was a puppy he also would not go all at once - we would stay outside until he peed at least twice. Now he goes all at once I swear he stands there forever! I went through what you are going through, but we kept up with the crate training and Loki was reliable by 8-9 months, totally trained by a year. You have to be consistent now even if it feels like they aren't learning, because one day they will figure it out. |
Yes, Dog litter. No, it is not like cat litter. It is much bigger granules and it is not at all like cat litter. I bought it at Pet smart about $8.95 for a bag. I tried it and the first day Stormy used it and I was so excited! You can google it and see the testimonials on it and how it works- that is what I did. My puppy is baout 17 weeks and we are completely potty trained. If you are in cold weather it works perfect!;) |
