special needs dogs has anyone got a dog who is a little slow? my 2 boys were starved of oxigen when they were born. tye had the cord wrapped around his neck and zac was in breach. they are both 12 now and have always been happy dogs but its taken them a lot longer to learn things and then remember them. has anyone else got a dog like that? :) |
no have to say that lexi is smart as a whip, but i give you all the credit in the world .. bless you. they are happy cause you make them happy... |
no, but I have a lab who is brain damaged! I don't mean disrespect, he really acts like, well, a lab! Tucker is incredibly smart in everything except housebreaking. Come to think of it, he's smart about that too, but in a bad way. I think it's wonderful that you have had these two special needs babies. I'm sure they have a happy life and love you very much! |
ahh thankyou :) they are much better now they are older . they dont look any different to normal dogs but like i said it just takes them longer to learn things. like 6 years to house train them  . they can sit and beg for food thought :D |
1 Attachment(s) My Dribbles a cockapoo mix was born with a Cleft Lip and her soft spot healed jagged so she took forever to learn anything. However she is now 1 and she looks and acts like the rest of my furbabies except wiggling she wiggles body parts that I didnt even know could more she makes me laugh everyday. :animal36 |
ahh how sweet :) |
LOL, oh yes! My Jasper was very "slow". He never got 100% housebroken, and he was just kind of "dum de dum I'm a dog, yuppers, that's me!" We would laugh at some of the things he would do, and gave up trying to get him to learn tricks. He ate lead solder when he was a pup, and we think that it affected his brain. We took to saying, "Jasper's not a smart dog, but he's FUZZY!" It was his claim to fame. He was the sweetest most loveable pup we ever had. The light was on, just no one home! :p |
My male Schnauzer that we rescued is what we call "special". He is very loving and just wants to be next to someone. He is afraid of anything white, plates, bowls, floors if it is white he will not touch it. he does not run like a regular dog does, he kind of runs like a deer more like a lopping motion. You can never raise your voice or yell around him, because it really scares him. We do not know what was done to him before we got him, but it must have been pretty bad. We have had him for 5 1/2 years and we love him very much, and he loves anyone. |
:D thats just what we say about zac that the lights are on but no ones home bless him but hes always wagging his tail and happy :D . ive got a rescue dog whos a bit like that scared of most things we have only had her since xmas and shes getting better now :) |
