Maltese Question I know, I know wrong breed. Really this question is for a friend. I have a friend that is going to get a Maltese and I told her about this site and that she should look for one for a Maltese. If I remember correctly some of you have a Malt. as well and was wondering if you know of any forums/sites like this one but for a Maltese. I know this really does help those of us that are new to owning a yorkie and maybe even those who are new to owning. Well if there are any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks |
I have a Maltese and the best site I've come across forum wise is called Spoiled Maltese (www.spoiledmaltese.com/forum/)... the members are so nice and it's just a wonderful forum. There is also another one called Maltese Only (www.malteseonly.com) but the members aren't as friendly to newbies and can sometimes be downright mean, it's also hard to navigate... but they do have some very good resources on there besides the forum. Tell her good luck on her new puppy! She'll love having a Malt. :) |
Adria gave you good links and I want to add that spoiledmaltese is a great little forum with nice people. Maltese Only has tons of info but the owner/admin/moderator is very controlling and can be down right rude. You are very sensored on his forum and can not mention brand names of food, grooming products, etc. You are unable to pm one another and your post do not appear until they have been approved for post. Sometimes they never appear at all. So don't ask anyone what brand of shampoo they prefer or what brand they feed their pups. Most yorkie people wouldn't mind her joining in on a yorkie forum. I have a malt and joined in on yorkie forums before I bought my yorkie. Both breeds are very similar in size, care and in the devotion their owners feel for them. |
I have a maltese and keep thinking how sad it is that malteseonly is not as wonderful as this site. I don't feel like I can post there and don't like much of the responses I read to people really truly needing advice. So glad you asked this question. I will check out the other site posted in this thread. I am so glad to have stumbled across Yorkietalk. I really enjoy this forum! To the other two that posted, I'd love to see pictures of your maltese! |
2 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of Bentley (my malt). He's 3 years old now. |
I totally agree w/ Luvmypupster, Maltese Only has a control freak as the moderator. I was banned from the forum for no reason at all. I assume it was because I was also on the Spoiled Maltese forum. They do have some cool articles about Maltese and their health but I avoid the forum. :thumbdown This is my little Tuffy! He's a little over 1 year old. :) |
Not only that but if he bans someone he publicly states by their screen name that they are banned. Not to mention that he trolled spoiledmaltese and caused some major problems in the SM's earlier days. He has a Napoleon complex. |
Thanks... 2 Attachment(s) Thanks for posting your pics! They are both just darling. Here's my Chloe. |

All of those pictures are adorable! And, of course, I'm sure you're welcome to talk about your maletese here to your hearts' content, I'm sure - Brownie's Mom is right - we all love our dogs, no matter the breed. I've always been curious about Maltese. They are so pretty - is it hard to keep their coats looking so white? |
It's hard to keep them white if you have one like my Chloe. She loves to be outside and I love her to be in her full length coat. So about 5 times a day she comes running in looking like she's wearing brown pants because she ran through the mud, or her entire muzzle is black from her poking around in the stinky leaves. So I let her dry and shake her out like a rug (really just kidding!) or I throw her in the sink for a bath and she's sparkling white again. The only time she was stained was when she got in the garbage after a birthday party and ate a lot of green frosting. That had to wear out for a while! |
The biggest problem I have with Tuffy's grooming is that he mats just walking around. Even in a short hair cut, he still mats like crazy. He's really prissy and hates going outside and being dirty so he doesn't get dirty too often.. he will refuse to walk in the grass or wet, muddy areas whenever we go on walks. He'll just stand up against my leg basically telling me, you better pick me up because I'm not going to get my paws dirty. I use a whitening shampoo on him every once in a while to keep him sparkly white. |
Thanks Thanks guys...I'll tell her about those sites. I looked through them and am now so much more impressed with yorkietalk. I always thought it was great, I mean this is my first yorkie and I have learned so much on here, but I really didn't realize that there aren't sites for other breeds of this quality. Way to go YorkieTalk and YorkieTalkers! All of your Malts. are very cute and since there are so many of you here I may let her know that to check yorkietalk out as well... Thanks once again. |
