[News] Yorkie Escapes From Boarding Kennel So sad! I hope they find their Poppy! --- A Family has been left devastated after its beloved puppy escaped from the boarding kennels it was staying at. George and Julie Brodie and their 11-year-old daughter Amy returned after two weeks in Cornwall to the heartbreaking news that their 16-week-old Yorkshire Terrier Poppy had escaped from Linby Boarding Kennels. The family, from Bestwood village, is now hoping Post readers may be able to help track her down. Mr Brodie, 40, said: "Our previous Yorkshire Terrier of 17 years had died in February and we said we were never going to have another dog but our daughter really missed her so we got Poppy. "Now we have lost her as well and it has really knocked us and ruined our holiday. We have been out hunting for the dog ever since we came back on Saturday " The Brodies had booked their holiday at a caravan park that did not allow dogs before they bought Poppy. They decided the simplest solution was to put her in kennels while they were away. They dropped her off at Linby Boarding Kennels and paid £162 for her to stay there for two weeks. It is thought Poppy escaped on Thursday through a small hole in the fence of the kennels' exercise enclosure. Dogs are put in the enclosure twice a day while their kennels are cleaned out and to give them some fresh air and space to move around. Kennel owner Ian Glen said that in more than 15 years of business, this was the first time they had lost a dog. Mr Glen said he thought a larger dog that had previously been in the enclosure and had chewed the wire mesh fencing. He said Poppy had managed to wriggle out and escape. Although on holiday when Poppy escaped, Mr Glen said he returned immediately, an extensive search of the local area was carried out and the police, RSPCA and the local dog warden were contacted to see if they had picked her up. "All members of staff and myself are devastated that a dog in our care is missing," he said. Anyone who thinks they may have spotted Poppy or picked her up can contact Mr Brodie on 0115 8401756. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/di...entPK=10710588 |
I wonder if Poppy could have been stolen? Theft is our biggest fear for Higgins. My daughter owns a sports bar in Kentucky and a patron she knows came in with a tiny Mini-pin puppy tucked in his shirt and offered to sell it to my daughter for $100. She gave him the money promptly and took the puppy home. She said she KNEW it had to be stolen because this guy was the type and certainly was no dog lover. She called both the police and Lexington Animal Control and told them the story and asked them to help her find the owners. After a few days the pup's family was found and they were happily reunited. Yes indeed, the pup had been stolen out of their car! They even gave her the $100 back as a reward, though she did not want to take it. My daughter breeds Great Danes and does Dane rescues frequently. She's always loved BIG dogs, but let me tell ya, this little Mini-pin grabbed her heart big time so now she doesn't refer to Higgins and all small dogs as snippy little ankle-biters any more! :) |
Yes, theft definitely could have happened. The first time I read it, I thought the Yorkie was 16 years old, I guess it's only 16 weeks! That's definitely a target for thieves! |
 I honestly think I would die if someone "snatched" Toto! We are so accustomed to being aware of where she is at all times ... if she is out of sight for longer than it takes to go to another room for a toy, snack or potty ... we panic!! Our breeder told us of a lady that had bought one of her babies and shortly called her in hysterics ... LOST the baby and was just beside herself! Called her back again ... found the baby ... she had been sorting laundry ... yep! found the baby under the laundry! A few weeks after we got Toto I had the very same thing happen to me!! Only difference ... as my mind was racing back and re-tracing our steps ... I remembered doing laundry ... LAUNDRY ... ... I ran to the laundry room and began digging through the "sort" piles and sure enough there was my tiny baby ... sleeping!! I then totally understood how those horror stories about pets getting in the washer or dryer could happen! She was at that age where anything was her bed that looked fluffy and she would just flop down in the oddest places and fall fast asleep!! I have enjoyed every single phase of her growth and in trying to think what was my favorite ... they ALL are!!! ;) |
stolen A friend of mine had their home broken into...they had 6 adult Yorkies and a litter of three, 12 week olds. The litter of 3 pups were stolen..it was such a sad thing to have happen. The police said it must have been someone who knew the bred Yorkies..nothing else was taken. |
